Backing up ICQ?

I need to reinstall the fucker, I have a feeling reinstalling it will fix the monstrous problems I've had connecting lately. I have already copied the entire ICQ directory to another location. Anyone have any idea which files I need to copy back in, once I've reinstalled it? Appreciate the help, thanks. :thumbsup

I think there is a tool called "DB EXPORTER" or something like that. It will backup all your contact in a file, and then you'll be able to import them after ! :warning

This is some kind off add-on or separate tool you're talking about, right? 'Cause all I can find in there is 'ICQ DB Administrator'. And as far as I know it neither imports nor exports anything, just optimizes and fixes errors in your current DB.

No one?

Start > Programs > ICQ > ICQ DB ADMIN

click fix database and it does it automatically once the files are in the right place like you said you did.

You should be able to just uninstall and re-install...

Your contacts are stored on their server.. they'll be there when you log back in..

Do this:
1- Copy the whole icq dir to a safe place, ideally on a different drive.
2- Uninstall icq using add/remove programs (this wil clean the registry of icq traces)
3- Remove the remains of the icq dir from your local drive
4- Copy back the whole folder you backed up, but don't try to launch it!!!
5- Reinstall icq on top of that dir. This will set it up properly on the registry, and will auto import your db.

I need the history logs as well, otherwise I would've done this long time ago.

I was actually considering performing this exact course of actions, but somehow I thought it'd be too simple to be a good solution. Gonna do it now, let's see if shit floats. :1orglaugh

My ICQ -> Save Load Contact List

Then copy your ICQ number directory to a different place.. re-install the fucker, import your contact list and copy the ICQ folder back.. had to do it a few times, I know it works [depending on your O/S you might have more than one ICQ folder.. which may be in your XP admin/my documents yada yada]

Well, the installation and import went well. Now I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why the fuck I keep getting disconnected... :arcadefre

I've uninstalled my firewall to see if that was the bug. Nope, it wasn't, still can't connect. Looked in my AV settings, no option to protect from viruses sent via ICQ, so that's not the culprit either. I have this problem both on my desktop and on my laptop, one has Windows XP Pro, the other XP Home. All the other people in my office connect to ICQ just fine. Anyone else have any idea what I can do to fix the fucker? :helpme
