I had to give up easy and carefree responses to: "what do you do for a living?"

i had to give up my entire life and everything I knew and loved (except my wife) because of my previous occupation

Internet marketing. Simple enough.

This is the one I use but it's so general that people usually pry. In most cases I don't really care but every once in a while when I'm meeting someone that is a friend of a friend, or someone that effects someone else in my life I try to keep it under wraps.

Just take something general. You market and manage sites for "dating sites, model sites, spyware removers, popup blockers". Say one and stick with it. :Graucho
