UK people - please explain Richard and Judy to me

I mean, I have lived here for over eight years now and I just don't get why they are so famous. Was there ever a point where they were actually cool?

Spudman 11-10-2004 10:24 AM

no way, they were never cool. they suck. the only reason they are famous is because they are husband and wife, always argue on tv and are so stupid. everyone takes the piss out of them.

Judies tit fell out in an award ceremony a few years ago and that was funny as fuck and made her a bit more famous. apart from that i dont know why they are famous.

drevil 11-10-2004 10:24 AM

Dont think they were ever cool unless you were a student when they were on daytime itv slot, think they just got some good ratings because all the old folk liked them in the daytime and also they thought richard was oh so sexy.
You are right though it is a mystery

yeah, I was here for the tit thing, that was only a few years ago. Amazingly it wasn't as popular as Janet's tit.

Did it slip or did it actually fall off her chest and bounced down the alley, and everybody was trying to fetch it but it just bounced and bounced out the door and into the incoming traffic, where it got run over by a schoolbus? Did she carry a spare?

It's a student irony and 'aren't they lovely' OAP thing,

Richard got caught "allegedly" shoplifting from his local Sainsburys I think it was.

He was arrested and eventually taken to court. He protested his innocence and said he must have forgotten to pay for it, that sort of stuff.

He went on tv saying he was innocent, why would he need to steal, etc.

Amazingly he got away with it, even though Sainsburys (or whoever it was) said they'd watched him do it more than once before nailing him.

So Richard, the "alleged" shoplifter, got away with it.

I think he got into trouble earlier this year for using the word "dykes" when referring to lesbians on his show.

That is possibly THE most cringe worthy moment in the history of British tv.

I think it's a love it or hate it thing. If you have very little going on in your life then you love it. If you have any semblance of normality about you then you think they're pointless tv slot fillers that won't go away.

Exactly that. They're also 'safe' enough to appeal to all the mail and express reader biggots.

Oh - and the AliG thing was the only decent bit of telly they've ever made. :)

Newton - XXXAmigoz 11-11-2004 07:26 AM

Richard and Judy are the lithium for the masses; primarily meant to be interesting, they unfortunately come across as mindless plebians, spouting dull and uninspiring drivel, allegedly ;)

In the mid 1990's outside of the Tesco (Didsbury) and a rather forgetful Richard Madeley walked to his car carrying two bottles of wine he forgot to pay for. A few weeks later and he appeared in court.

Can someone explain what this quote means from a previous post as I'm not from England:

Quote:

everyone takes the piss out of them.

Newton - XXXAmigoz 11-11-2004 07:36 AM

They laugh at them, not with them. They are a subject of ridicule.

I think it made number one in either the most shocking or most embarassing moment in tv history..one of those things.

Sarah_Jayne 11-11-2004 07:59 AM

I once say Richard do a tv show on extreme weather and he was actually okay in that because he seemed really into the subject. I think that is the only thing I have seen either of them do outside of their show.

Every now and then I catch a bit of their show before I start cooking the evening meal and it is funny how they try to stay hip. Last week or so they were intereviewing Pamlea Anderson and I think she wanted to smack him for looking at her boobs. She looked pissed (American sense).

Didn't they go mental when Tatu came out?
