its not worth prison time and loosing everything, it would have to be a lot of dough.

reynold 11-10-2004 08:18 AM

this will scare a lot of spammers.

jockboy60 11-10-2004 08:20 AM

its not worth the 20 bucks a month they make i'm sure

depends on what he was busted for.. with all the other spamers busted they were nailed for other things such as fraud or identity theft. I have yet to see anyone get busted "just" for spamming.

However "Spammer arrested" is thrown around a lot in the news headlines.

en1 11-10-2004 08:27 AM

has any one even confirmed this to be true....

There will always be spammers. It's starting to be like playing Russian Roulette though. :winkwink:

But all those things are vital to a spammer. Just using proxies is already illegal.

Cool - they should arrest all spammers :thumbsup

pornguy 11-10-2004 12:07 PM

I think that wasting the tax dollars of the people to chase spammers is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

There are more serious things than spam. and that money needs to be used for those things.

very true. that spammer that was recently arrested and has a $1 mil. bail, was spamming fake scammy shit. he fucking deserves all that he gets.

XPays 11-10-2004 02:54 PM

can spam is one fed law, then there are the numerous state laws (which are enforceable) and just about any isp can have a good faith lawsuit against any mailer.

free advice: put that energy and talent originally used for mailing into low risk niches such as search engines and avoid the risks of mailing for a while. these isp's love the publicity they get from the lawsuits in the ongoing isp war for free email account users to advertise to.

it is soooo easy to get sued- you can use a nebulous subject like "sexually-explicit: just turned 18" and they can sue you claiming the subject is deceptive because the models may not be actually just 18 for example. Sounds silly- but it happens for real.

btw- we have one of our ironport's for sale.

Mr Pheer 11-10-2004 02:57 PM

none of this has seemed to even make a dent in the amount of spam i get everyday

Yankee Scum 11-10-2004 02:58 PM

lol he probally get 9 years LOL

I could do two bankrobberies with an ak47 and still get less time!!!! (no joke)

hydro 11-10-2004 03:02 PM

Well as long as you are only using proxies I would think you could scoot under the gaydar for quite awhile. I think their big targets are guys that are committing fraud and identity theft and so on.

I think if you were "just" mailing it would be hard for them to get a very good conviction on you. Especially with a trial by jury.

I think "Can Spam" outlaws the use of proxies when mailing, but don't quote me on it..
