I know that I am not one of the ladies but my wife and I feel that a check is sometimes a better gift. Actually cash is the best.

Very often the couple would like to purchase something private, and dont want to put it on a regestry list or what not. So cash is King.

Have you checked to see if they're registered anywhere yet? If they are, sometimes you can do the whole deal over the phone or on the net. They'll even wrap it for you and have it waiting.

Usually money is given at the engagement parties.

A nice bottle of wine and a congrats card is the best way to go in my opinion...not too impersonal yet extremely simple. :thumbsup

Yeah, your better off giving them money ... that way they can buy themselves what ever they want, without you having to worry about what to get them :winkwink:

I've seen that movie pretty funny. the coffee machine always end up as the gift.

Actually, you're right about that. Technically, I don't think you're supposed to bring gifts to an engagement party. Of course some people will, but I don't think it's the expected thing. I know they aren't supposed to be opened at the party.

If you're going to the wedding, you can buy and bring the gift there. Even if you don't go, wait until you get your invitation and send the big gift then. Maybe just take something small on Saturday like a bottle of wine. Or Drakkar. :1orglaugh

Cash or checks are only for the actual wedding itself. A gift isn't neccessary for the engagement itself, though a nice bottle of wine or champagne would be a lovely gesture.
