It depends on how much space you need. I have and iPod 20 gig and a Creative Zen Xtra that holds 30 gigs. You can snag a Creative for $200 or so and it's excellent. A bit bulkier than the iPod, but the sound's excellent and it has some nice features. I only have an iPod because I got it for free. :)

I love my ipod 40gb. Never used any other mp3 player though... probably never will either... all of my friends have ipods too.

every Ipod I have encountered has horrible battery life and many glitches in the system

that's why I bought myself an Iriver IHP-140:
