Google B.L.O.O.P., does it exist?
 

Back link over optimization penalty. I've heard a few tidbits about it, but can find no concrete evidence that it exists.

I have had "too many" links (upwards of 50k) to a single url which it did get banned. Not sure if that's what you mean by over-optimized though.

Thanks for the reply. To be more specific, it's rumored that they are applying penalties (not necessarily bans) if you accumulate too many backlinks too quickly. Now what they consider too many or to quickly is what I'm uncertain about. I suspect this may be an attempt to curb blog spamming.

I would agree with your assessment, figuring out how many over what period of time is very difficult to figure out though.
