What is wrong w/ my XBOX?

For the past couple months, I've been getting alot of "your disk may be damaged or dirty" messages.

I tried cleaning the disks but I still get the message.

Now the new thing is that I can't turn my XBox off. When I click the power button, it shuts off and then 2 seconds later it decides to turn back on and open up on me.

Anyone ever heard of this before?

i think the problem is that its made by microsoft

Samantha_Luvcox 11-08-2004 08:20 PM

Mine tried to do some sort of update via the net, has not been right since, can't get online. I have to put the disk in, close it, get error, open it close it again and it works. Still no online but at least I can play single player. Called support about it, there only solution is to send it in after paying a fee thats almost as much as just buying a new one.

Solution, just buy a new one and return the old one the next day, in its box.

Xbox Repair

First of all if you have not opened your Xbox and you are having problems, think about calling 1-800-4MY-XBOX that is the customer support number for Microsoft. If you have had it less than 90 days it should be covered under warranty. If you open the box they will no longer fix your system for a reasonable charge and it will become cheaper to buy a new one.

Lots of info on repairs here...

:1orglaugh That's pretty funny actually. I'd probably have to do that at a WalMart or something. EB games people can smell an old XBox a mile away.

about the reading cd, i think your xbox lens are dirty. I don't know about the power switch though

NaughtyAlysha 11-09-2004 10:26 AM

Our first one did that after 2 years, we just trashed it and bought another... they're fairly cheap now, $150 I think. We paid $300 for our first one.

candyflip 11-09-2004 10:39 AM

This is a common problem. I've had two XBoxs fall to this problem.
