I am thinking about getting a laptop

I had the following offered to me:

brand new Alienware 3.2Ghz laptop

16.1" LCD display

Built-In Wireless 802.11a/b/g miniPCI Card

Integrated 10/100Mb Ethernet NIC

AREA-51M NVIDIA FX go5600 Module with 128MB DDR

4x2x8x DVD-RW / 16x10x24x CD-RW Combo

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB External

Hitachi 60GB 7200 RPM ATA100 with 8MB Cache

SiS648FX + SiS963L AGP8X Chipset

1024MB DDR PC-3200 - 2x512 SO-DIMMs

I am unfamiliar with Alienware, pretty much the only software included is XP.

Is this a good product, and how much would you place the value at?

Do you know what model name or number it is?

TweetyBird 11-08-2004 07:26 PM

without getting too much into it, I'd say that it looks like a fair kit.... depends on the price though :glugglug

read the forum link there is tons of post about there products

Kimmykim 11-08-2004 07:47 PM

I don't have an Alienware, actually don't use anything but Vaio laptops -- BUT -=- I've heard a lot of Dell owners complain about how they have a hard time with service, I'd advise you to make sure you can get service easily on ANY machine you buy.

And how was dinner last night, where did you and the progeny end up?

Buy twelve if you can get them for $1k a piece. I'll take as many as you can get for that.

We ended up in Marina del Rey - Pablo Escobar's place or something like that.

Had a good time, as usual

I've never had any complaints about my Area 51 desktop. blazing fast and reliable. I would say the laptop is just as good if not better than the desktop models. Its a trendy brand, sure, but quality is quality, And I've really enjoyed mine.

I use to hold eMachines in low regards. Then I used one of their new laptops and fell in love with it. I bought a slightly used one off of eBay for 300 bucks. AMD 2.4, 1gig of ram, 40gb hd, built in 802.11g, nic, 15.1inch wide screen, dvd-rom/cdrw.

The quality is great and no overheating issues either.

I'm using a compaq right now. try it.

tranza 11-09-2004 10:33 AM

A laptop like that would cost at least $3k here in Brazil....

I've never heard of them before though...
