working in this industry, I hate using the phone...
I feel quite uncomfortable using the phone, I much rather use ICQ or MSN...
am I the only one? :helpme |
same here but if i have to use the phone I do it.
|
not at all.
problem is, doing bigger business than the standard requires it, especially for a designer like myself. Talking to someone on the phone ensures a better/closer relationship, makes you 10x more legit, and is more professional than 100% chat-based relationship. get a nice speakerphone, takes the nerve out of it. i was on the phone discussing some site content and my brother walked in and just stared then walked off :1orglaugh
|
I got an industry related call while I was waiting for my drink to be made at Starbucks... was an interesting conversation to say the least, lol... it was kinda hard to censor myself... was like bla bla bla *whisper* porn.com* etc. lol. I don't use my cell phone anymore though, when I leave the house/office I wanna be left the fuck alone!
|
you must sound like a bitch:2 cents:
|
I don't like the phone but another thing is using the phone talking to non industry people and surfing gfy then putting the mouse in wrong place and have I'M A DIRTY COCKHOLSTER SOUND off....
|
i fucking hate the phone
phone is for initial business to be done, then I expect email and icq thereafter if you are my client and feel like you have to call me each day, i get so annoyed i have this one guy that when he first started getting work done by me he felt he had to call once a day, sometimes twice...made me not want to work with him anymore i felt like it was almost like he was checking up on me...and i really hate that |

Adult? Well, I am not in adult :) |

i'm the same way. email, icq, msn all the way for me.
|
I like doing the initial business IN PERSON.. and then the rest of the contact is a mix of messenger & phone usage. -g
|
I prefer phone over ICQ etc for some instances
|
I have to use the phone quite often, sometimes just to talk with our customers. But I'm really confused when I have to talk on the phone while I'm in my regular job where nobody knows that I work in this biz.
|
i hate using the phone in the biz, but i use skype to communicate with some people from time to time :glugglug
|
bunch of fucking hermit ass nerds, use the fucking phone that's how real biz is done, or face to face when possible.

I'm very comfortable on the phone and in person. :)
I've been doing sales for a long time... DH |
Interesting thread for me as I am setting up the support department at dollars.com . We will have every method we can think of for you to contact us.
Right now we use live chat via live person and icq, or any other IM customers desire. We do have VOIP phone to call those that like, and soon will have a complete call center set up. I have noticed most of our customers do prefer email or icq. |

I've never been a fan of the phone

do 95% of the biz over the phone as of late..
|
I hate the phone as well
I called ePassport one time to tell them to approve my card, but they didn't |
I prefere icq and email simply because my accent is horrible. I hate talking to people on the phone when I have to make sure my point gets across. Atleast via ICQ my typing is usually better than theirs :p

I always feel a bit odd when I have to call my host or something and say the name of my domains outloud. Like suddenly they sound odd and dirty..lol
|
Can larger business be accomplished without the phone? When I'm really trying to accomplish something, I prefer the phone over everything other than talking in person.
|
I prefer talking on icq or email as well. That way you can multi task on other things

A lot of serious business is done over the phone.
When I switched from mainstream business to adult, there was definitely an initial awkwardness all round, and it did require a personal assertion of really understanding my involvement and commitment to the industry. It did not take long to discover that adult entertainment is a legitimate and culturally mainstream industry. There are many professionals at all levels (web hosting, operating systems, media players, webmasters, sponsors...) who have gotten beyond the 'content level' and conduct themselves professionally (and ethically) at the 'business level'. You don't have to be vulger in supporting your client base, and negotiating or discussing your B2B needs with your vendors. Being able to represent your project professionally in person and over the phone is a business rite of passage - adult or otherwise. The 'right wingers' often defer to the 'porn' industry as being conducted in the shadows and back streets. The more established higher profile good business examples we get, the better for all. -Dino :2 cents: |
What industry is that?
