My 4 Year Old Son's Views on the Election (Humorous)

As many of you know, my ex wife is very religious and conservative. She's a great mother, however, and includes my son in all appropriate aspects in her life. She tries to allow him to form his own opinions.

Last night I was taking my son to dinner. It was just he and I in my truck and I wanted to have a conversation with him. I asked him:

ME: So, who'd you vote for in the election?

HIM: Well, I didn't go with mommy when she voted. She told me she voted for President Bush. I wanted the other guy to win.

ME: Oh yeah? Why did you want the other guy to win?

HIM: Because he wants to give flashlights to everybody so they can see at night. I think he wants to give all of us flashlights.

ME: Oh really? That's a good reason. But he didn't win, huh?

HIM: No. He only got 3 votes and President Bush got 19. I'm kinda sad the other guy didn't win.

I had to do all I could to keep from laughing really hard. It was SO CUTE hearing a 4 year old say these things. But he was being VERY serious so I didn't want to laugh.

I'm pretty sure the flashlights came from his recently developed fear of the dark. He carries his little green flashlight everywhere.

A few days ago he left it in my car. He called the next afternoon asking if I knew where his flashlight was. When I told him he had indeed left it in my car he wanted me to bring it to him ASAP so he'd have it before it got dark.

Jeff aka NIGHTfall 11-06-2004 12:40 PM

aw.. you should buy him a nightlight.. i use to have one when i was his age and it helped me sleep, it was one with i think donald duck and mickey mouse.

A night light casts weird shadows on the walls that scare him. He prefers to have his bedroom door left open with the hall light on.

I've had some really cute conversations with him late at night when he's scared and wants to talk to daddy.

Tala 11-06-2004 02:07 PM

Awww, that is so CUTE!!! I'm jealous as hell.

I want a flashlight too. :)

alexg 11-06-2004 03:47 PM

that's really cute...

must be an awesome feeling to have such a conversation with your own son.

TweetyBird 11-06-2004 03:53 PM

the kid is cute, hehe :glugglug

CET 11-06-2004 03:54 PM

John Kerry wanted to give everyone a flashlight? That would have changed my vote entirely! :winkwink:

shermo 11-06-2004 05:07 PM

WOah. if he gave everybody flashlights, the right guy would have been in office!

Sarah_Jayne 11-06-2004 05:24 PM

I love that you are talking to him about the election even at that level.

Dalai lama 11-06-2004 05:26 PM

Serious man, this is killing me. Too damn funny

pussyluver 11-06-2004 05:43 PM

I hope you both have a chance latter in life to share a few beers at a bar sometime and talk about the flashlight story. Maybe he'll be a liberal or a conservative??? By then there will be something else no doubt. Eitherway, you'll love him.

Thanks for sharing the moment.

JustJen 11-06-2004 09:36 PM

I asked my niece who she wanted to win and she said "John Kerry". I said "why is that?" She replied, "Bush already had a turn." Kids are just so sweetly simple.

Rinaldo 11-06-2004 09:38 PM

That's so cute... I love kids

Rankings 11-06-2004 09:38 PM

Yep. It's simple, really. George Bush is not giving out flashlights.

And he only won by 13 votes.

Well, she's my "ex" now. When I started she was NOT my "ex".

Guess that about sums it up. LOL.

If there weren't deeper problems than that I never would have started in this business. But for Christian girls, very few things allow for divorce. The other problems made life miserable, but they wouldn't allow her to get divorced.

Porn, on the other hand.... her Pastor's blessing on divorce was instant.

Don... that's the KEY! Mrs. and I spend all the time we can with our son, and he's not shuffled to daycare... Thankfully....
