Get a carfax of the vehicle and if religious, PRAY. I would never buy a vehicle without driving it. I own a shop, trust me DO NOT BUY A CAR WITHOUT DRIVING IT. And if you can bring along someone who knows a lot about vehicles if you do not yourself so that you can pick up on little things like loose main bearings, oil pump clicking, valve chatter, crank walk, o2 fouling, map or mas damage, alternator weaking etc.

I already pulled the vin and ran it.

if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. tell him you will fly out there and check it out first (even if you dont want to). if he doesnt want you to fly there to look at it, hes up to something.

dude, use escrow.com and if hes telling u to use another service call him a scammer NOW and post his info! (its a fake fucking escrow service which will say its holding ur cash and shit then run with it... most likely built by himself, or a partner who acts as a bank drop, then the bank acct will be cashed out very easily, and your fucked and good luck finding them.)

How are you planning on picking it up ?? If you plan on doing it in person, why couldn't you just give him the money then ? I know that some people will want a deposit like say $1000 to hold it, then you pay the rest when you get it. I don't see why he'd want the whole amount up front like that, it does sound fishy.

Since you're in Florida and the car is in Cali, I would find out what city the person lives in. Then run a search and locate the nearest Chevrolet dealership in his area. Have yourself transfered to their service department and explain your situation to the mechanic. What you're looking for is what they refer to as a "Buyers Inspection." Let him know that you're in Florida and that the car you're interested in is located close to them.

Contact the seller of the car, and let him know that you are interested in having the car inspected by a Chevrolet dealership. If he has no problem with it, then pay the dealership the fee, schedule the appointment, and have him take the car to them. Any legitimate person, selling to an out of state buyer shouldn't have ANY reserves about doing this. If he has ANY excuse whatsoever, you know it's a scam.

DON'T, I repeat, DON'T deal with just any mechanic. It's best to deal directly with a dealership's service department since they work predominently on the car you're interested in purchase. Since they work on Chevrolets and likely Corvettes they know what type of wear and tear to keep and eye out for. And don't let the seller try to schedule an appoint with HIS mechanic. You want the inspection to be as independent as possible. By having a Chevrolet dealership inspect the car, you'll be sending a message to him that you're genuinely interested in his car. If he turns you down, you know that something is deffinetely wrong.

definitely do something like above. i was almost scammed using autotrader.com someone wanted to buy my car, they sent me a check and said that the shipper would be by to pick it up that day. i had just received the check and had not had a chance to deposit it. they gave me some BS on how the shipper had a schedule to keep and that the car needed to be picked up asap. i said not until the check clears. 4 days later i get a returned check with "counterfeit" stamped right no the front. the check was from Bank of America and looked legit. DON'T TRUST ANYONE

I sold a car on eBay. A guy up in NC bought it without seeing it. Just the pics. Talked to him on the phone to select the transport carrier and he wired $50K the same day.
