What Does 'The Heartland' Mean?
 

when people refer to certain areas as 'The Heartland(s)' - where does that name come from and what does it mean? Some kind of metaphor relating to the physical organ - the pump, where the blood of a country is strongest? that kind of meaning?

The big empty space between New York and Los Angeles.

probably it means it's the center. you know the heart being the center of all.

Heartland is where america is still america. Made up of vast areas of rural farming, the hear of america.
