Spammer Jailed, Fines Issued In Landmark Case
Spammer Jailed, Fines Issued In Landmark Case
It is worrying that the jury convicted them for sending unwanted spam without producing a person who recieved the unwanted spam. Looks like the jury convicted them on the spam they recieved. |
Nine years is kinda tough

"McGuire pointed out that Jaynes was earning close to $500,000 a month through his spamming business and that he had assets worth nearly $24 million."
He made 24 million dollars ripping people off and you don't think he deserved 9 years! :1orglaugh |

While I'm not in favor of spam, the article points out some really troubling things:
?Out of the total of 55,473 e-mails, the government did not call a single person to the stand to testify that the message they received was unsolicited,? "Although the three prosecutors for the case submitted hundreds of documents as evidence and had a stack of servers resting on the court bench that they said were confiscated from Jaynes? home, the defense countered that it doesn?t mean Jaynes or the co-defendants were committing any crime." |
Good thing they are staying away from non emai parts of Yahoo, MyWay, Graffiti, etc etc.
