I think ol' Jesse needs to go rent a copy of Predator. Get a firm grasp back on who's the star and who's supporting cast. :2 cents:

I think it's just hype for a new Predator movie...

from what i have read and seen Jesse the Ventura made an excellent statesmne..honest and forthright with his people, he should run again.

Say what you want about Ventura's antics..

But man, I miss him as gov. A lot. He had probably the best policies any governor of this state (and likely anywhere in the US recently) ever had.

You talk about Kerry getting out the "young" vote? Ventura got elected by the younger folks here, and surprised the fuck out of the idiotic repubs/dems.

If you have some spare time, get a copy of his book(s). You will likely (especially since you're posting on GFY) agree with almost every single thing he says, or close to it.

I can't think of a single issue where I disagreed with him, after thinking about it critically. The only one I disagreed with was him not supporting mandating schools to read the pledge before the day started. In retrospect, he was completely right and I was wrong.

Fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Perfect. He had the "live and let live" attitude more people need to get a fucking grasp of.

I sincerely miss him in the governors office. Someone who's not afraid to speak his mind and give a big fuck you to all the politically correct assholes out there is A-ok in my book.

If more people would stop being hung up on his past, you might be pleasantly surprised over how much you agree with all his policies.

Peace,

-Phil

Yeah I read his books too, he has some very good ideas, where he fought to have people be able to register and vote on the same day, he said the way it is now allows the parties to control whom can vote still, the fact he spent 600,000$ to get in office where the other parties spent 11 million, etc

He is also against big government and would like to see scale back the government, I think he quotes the fact that the constitution used to keep the government out of your life, and left them leading the country, and now the government tries to be in your bedroom etc. I agree if people stopped looking at him as a wrestler, movie star they would agree with most of his ideas, not only that he served his country in Vietnam as a Navy Seal, he actually fought to get into the Navy Seals, didn't evade his duty and to this day does not talk about what he did in Vietnam.

TheEnforcer 11-04-2004 10:33 AM

Anyone got a clip of the commercial?

Phoenix 11-04-2004 10:34 AM

You from MN too Phil?

He was the best public character yet!

The best part is now he refuses to talk to the media, never answers anything. He's a big baby about it but I don't know anyone that's said FUCK YOU to the media like him :)

He's spoken about that issue too, he says the media is never much interested in his plans, and keep trying to focus on his private (family) life. It was one of the reasons he quoted for not running again.

swedguy 11-04-2004 10:43 AM

Is he Ace Ventura's brother?

Phil21 11-04-2004 12:49 PM

Yeah, I'm up here. :)

And I give him fucking kudo's for saying fuck you to the media. It was getting to the point of obsurdity the last year he was in office. Every day it was some other "breaking scandal" like his 17 year old kid having *gasp* a party with friends at the governors mansion (yeah.. a kid had a party at his dad's house. holy shit.).

Like they tried to get kids to go "undercover" with hidden cameras and stuff, to try to see if there was underage drinking. Then the media would just blow up every little tiny comment he'd make that might be not totally PC into some huge deal where "Ventura hates the Irish" or whatever the minority group of the day was. I think if I were him, I would have been disgusted by it and refused to run again too. Having some fun with his ex-wrestling career and somewhat off-key public persona is one thing - totally ignoring all the good he's trying to do is another.

There are not ANY politicians I have respect for like I do Ventura. He was able to at least attempt some very serious and important policy changes while in office (even with a legislator trying to block every single thing he tried just out of spite), while retaining his sense of humor and never being afraid to speak out.

I wish Ventura 2008. :) He'd be the only politician I'd ever feel good enough to actually even consider volunteering for. However, even that said.. I don't really think he'd have a shot since it's so largely dependent on the media taking you seriously. Out of all the third party folks, I think he would have the best chance though.

Ah well, good times. :)

-Phil
