Bought a new pc, what a piece of shit

Are these getting worse by the year?

- Wireless pc card ain't working
- My second HDD cannot be plugged in or it says error, cable not inserted or something which prevents the pc from starting up altogether (yes, jumpers okay, 1 serial ATA, one basic HDD)
- The damn thing keeps hanging every time I try to update drivers

Any tips on the HDD stuff?

SinSational 11-02-2004 06:37 PM

open it up and see if it is plugged in.

This is actually the most expensive pc i ever bought, go figure.

If this crap continues I will bring it back without a doubt.

that's why building one yourself is not a bad idea... you get all the best parts for the price of a pre-built system...

I agree and it crossed my mind.

I've restarted this piece of shit about 50 times now in the past 4 hours. A real drag. I cannot update any driver or setting and the fucker hangs again.

I had to wait 2 weeks for it too, as they built it with my specs. I can't believe I tried another store when I always ordered PCs at another shop the past years.

Proves once again, if you're happy, don't change it:/

The solution is:

http://store.apple.com/

Where did you buy this crapper anyhow so we can be sure to avoid them.

TurboTrucker 11-02-2004 08:44 PM

I bought some cheap ass PC, the brand is "Great Quality" It was $280 for an Athlon XP 2600, damn thing works great.

OG LennyT 11-02-2004 08:58 PM

I bought my daughter one of those "Great Quality" boxes from Fry's Electronics for 260 bucks. Cheaper than building her a system, which I usually would have done. Fuckin thing runs like a champ.

never buy a computer built by a store , dell ect buy parts and have some one you know build it for you .

you will save about 35% on costs and you will have a good 1-3 year guarnteen depending on the part

lagwagon 11-02-2004 09:02 PM

sorry to hear that. computer problems are the worst.

Check your Bios, and is your HDD showing it's active when the PC boots up? Make sure the second hardrive is set as a secondary slave and not primary or master drive on the physical drive.

I obviously havedone that, but the bios has some things I never heard about:

S.M.A.R.T. boot or something?
Maybe I do have to play with these jumpers a little, i know the master has 1 and the slave has none in my case, according to what is on the disks, that should be okay.

It's gonna be a day of hell and fun again. By the way, I think the pc kept hanging because of the software of the SiteCom Wireless Network card, I removed all that and it seems to run okay now. So i'm gonna try new firmware for that crapper and then I need to fix that HDD issue.

Oh, another thing. When it starts up, it says something about 128mb, but my RAM is 512, any idea what that is all about? In windows it just says 512mb.

By the way, I paid 1180$ for just the case, no monitor and keyboard, at ParaDigit in the Netherlands.

The specs on my pc are a little better though. More stuff and it is a Pentium, more RAM too.

I didn't buy a new monitor yet, there are plenty standing here already;) I'll buy a nice flatscreen when I see one.

reynold 11-03-2004 07:15 AM

That must have been a ripped off. try to return it to the shop. buy pentium.
