We are in the process of testing Site Depth and so far our experience is bad.

We bought it because so many people praise it, but for a company our size with so much content that needs to be added on a daily basis and having over 70 sites it totally does not have the balls to cope. Even with the small task of running some new photo galleries.

At most we can only work with 5, yes only 5 photo sets at a time. We hosted it on a dual Xeon machine as well.

Getting their technical support to help is also a hassle, they always claim to be too busy.

So if you run a lot of sites this is not the product for you.

I can only see a person with a few sites really liking this program.

So if there is a beefier program out there let us know!

Overall it can't handle the load and it's extremely inflexable. I won't even get started on the template system.

Sorry to be the first to say this program sucks right now but someone had to, we are the largest client to test it and we STRESS TESTED IT and it failed.

Has lot's of potential hopefully they will listen to our concerns and make it better..... if they are not too busy.

First of all let me just say about our support being a hassle, i believe that that is exagerated i don't think we have ever been more than a day without adressing an issue for anyone .

With so many different server possibilities and configurations, there will always be some people who have problems. SiteDepth is running on over 100 servers at the moment, and so far there have only been 2 cases where it did not function properly ? the first being a PHP issue, the second being the pimproll case.

Obviously this is a concern and we are working on it, but it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what is causing their problem. We tried adding 10 of their zip files at a time on our own test server (dual Xeon as well) and they were processed normally. There is no inherent limit to the number of zips that can be added at a time ? the practical limit has more to do with the server than anything. WE have customers who can process up to 50 in one shot.

We stand by our product and of course we are committed to fixing the problem, but if you can?t wait any longer or aren?t happy with it, we will gladly refund your money the way we talked about before you guys bought. Without knowing your exact numbers it is hard to tell how much it is being stressed, but it is running on a number of paysites with over 3000 active members without issue.

We also have a number of customers who have paid 10x as much for another CMS, and found they couldn?t handle their sites ? and installed SiteDepth.

That said we are working on a MAJOR update for it, which will be ready very soon. It will be a free upgrade to all current customers.

Acknowledging that we were asking for assistance, yes you were fast.

Actually assisting took over a week, then it got passed from hand to hand. Finally we were told the actual creator would have to look at the problem.

You say you tested 10 zips, but your email to us says you only tested 5 zips.

Even 10 zips is peanuts, we have over 100,000 images bought this week alone, at 10 a time it will take months to process.

Your help link also delivers a PARSE ERROR.

Again with your comment about 3000 members only shows that CURRENTLY your product is meant for smaller sized sites.

I generally think you have a good product just needs that extra horsepower and flexibility to kick it up a few levels.

And no I am not looking for a refund, just a functional product that meets our volume.

Our programmers are already creating our own system, the purchase of AdultVideoPlanet.com has kept them quite busy so SiteDepth was bought as an interm solution to manage some galleries (some = about 5000 new ones).

I look forward to the update.

I will second the notion that response time to a problem was quick. Addressing it was not.

Support is definitely friendly, but the work was never actually done. I requested the "Help" in the admin area be fixed ("Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /usr/local/apache/www/*****.com/sitedepth/_assets/onlinehelp/templates.html on line 1") and it never was, as the actual documentation is lacking.

I will agree that the product is built for the smaller site owner that uploads 20 1mb zips, but lacks the flexibility for a larger affiliate needing to add 100 sets with ease.

With no error reporting, it's a mess trying to figure out which set(s) fucked up. It's not good when the best alternative is to wipe the database and start over because you have no idea what worked, and what failed... nor can you delete multiple galleries at a time.

This is in no way a flame or troll, just an experience.. one I wish I could forget.

PimpRoll 11-03-2004 10:41 PM

If at the worst our comments drive you to build a better product then this thread was indeed worthwhile.

It is not an attack on SiteDepth or it's people, just a review of our experience so far.

I only say so far because I am fairly confident these issues will be resolved.
