I Need a Cheap Dedicated Box

I need a really cheap box with lots of BW. This box will only host images for my TGPs.

Cheap means the hardware doesn't have to be a beast. A 1.7Ghz celeron, 512MB RAM, 40GB IDE will do fine. I just need lots of BW - 2000GB + transfer.

My current host offers the hardware but can't give me more than 1200GB BW and so it doesn't help me any. If I want more BW they're gonna 'lock' me into buying a separate 'line' of servers which their lowest is like a dual xeon with 1gb ram etc . way overkill for serving only images.

Spam away.

I'm pretty sure servermatrix (or theplanet) is the very host he mentioned. :Graucho

If I just needed to host images or other static content I would set up multiple boxes with round-robin DNS. 1200x2=2400 Gb:winkwink:

That's an awesome idea. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll definitely consider that :)

This is where you point the same hostname at two or more IPs. The DNS server (usually) rotates the order of the DNS replies so that surfers will be fairly evenly distributed between the IPs.

If you don't do your own DNS then your host should be able to set it up for you. The tech term would be "multiple A records per host" or something like that.

I was contacting my friend a while ago and the line was cut. I was talking about your concern. Are you talking about the software?
