atkins sucked for a few people i knew that did it they lost a lot of weight quick but ended up gaining back the weight they lost plus some when they stopped the diet

That's their fault, then. The book specifically says you can't stop the diet. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. You're stupposed to eat low-carb for the rest of your life. More carbs than in the weight loss phase, but not as many as before you started. If they go back to eating the way they did before you started Atkins, then of course they're going to gain it back. That's how they got fat in the first place. :)
