Chicago people I need help!

Ok, I'm trying to setup some vacation time to get to Chicago to see the cubs/redsox in June. I'm gonna be all over tickets etc the first day since I know that will be my only chance at em without paying a shitload more.

What I need to know is a good hotel close to Wrigley, (doesn't have to be a $500/night place) most searches I'm doing is coming up with $200-$300 per night for 3 adults and 1 kid and being withing 2 miles of the field.

Also, is their a gay nightclub around Chicago? Or what other places around the city are worth checking out? None of us have ever been there so I thought I would ask here :)

Have fun bro & make some fun

all the hotels near wrigley field are crappy. Just stay in the loop or the gold coast. The ballpark is just a cab/subway ride away. with the subway, you can take the red or brown line right to the ballpark

Six flags is about 45 minutes north from downtown, there's a pretty big shopping mall called gurnee mills right down the street from six flags.

Best thing for tourists is to check out the site www.metromix.com it has pretty much everything you need to know about in chicago.

there is a 6 flags 1 hour away you can allways get a hotel room away from Wrigley and take a cab you can find cheap places outside of the city for $100-150 a nite and just spend the cab $$ or rent a car.

ps make sure to get bleacher tix for that game. Bleachers @ a cubs game = the best party in major league baseball :)

Sosa 11-01-2004 03:55 PM

thanks for the replies everyone. We are planning on going to all 3 games so that is why we were thinking of a hotel close to wrigley and then take transit everywhere else. I see some 3 and a 4 star hotel within a couple miles of Wrigley. $200+ a night.

Any other ideas?

We will for 1 of the games for sure, I'm just hoping I can get through to get tickets very quick when they first get on sale.

Ace0r's on the money, get a good downtown hotel and take the EL in for the game, or rent a limo and just get dropped off at the front gate. Chicago limousine rates are pretty cheap compared to other cities I've been in.

I'd recommend Amm's Limo - http://www.ammslimo.com
Ask for Jimmy, he will take care of you!

Something maybe worth looking into, there are shuttle buses from Gurnee Mills to downtown, mainly for the sailors from Great Lakes Naval Training Center to get downtown, you can usually get a van to yourselves when they deadhead it back north for another load of sailors on liberty. The drop off zone is where the old Rock and Roll McDonalds was, I will find out the skinny next time I am in Gurnee.

You might want to get a hotel in Gurnee, Six Flags is putting in a water park for next year. I recommend the Hampton Inn Gurnee over the five other hotels in walking distance. Also, if you are shopping fans, Gurnee Mills mall is an indoor outlet mall with about 200+ stores, 20 resturants 20 movie screens, ice skating rink, rifle range, etc. There is usually about 30+ tour buses parked there for shopping tours there. :1orglaugh

Not knowing what you want to do in Chicago limits me in recommending something, Chicago is a 24/7 city, there is ALWAYS something going on that interests me. :thumbsup

Thanks for the reply, lots of info there. Is it easy to get from downtown to Wrigley? I like staying downtown for sure, love the city life downtown. Will look into the limo service but not sure that would be sometihng we would want to do. I'm going with my mom, brother, and girlfriend... You got any hotels I should look into downtown that are priced decently? Going to be about a 4 night stay I think.

it is very easy to get to wrigley from downtown, either by cab or subway. If you want to take the subway, keep this URL in your bookmarks, it's a trip planner: http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/

Check out the congress, the W, or palmer house hilton, 3 of my fav's downtown.

Very easy, you could drive up there, in a rental, take a cab, take the train, take a limo, the bus. As long as the Chicago Transit Authority has their budget, the trains and buses run 24/7. (On New Years to keep you from drinking & driving its only a penny!)

Again, Ace0r is on the money for good hotels, there are two W's (Lake Shore Drive and Loop) both A1 hotels! :thumbsup

The Hard Rock Hotel opened on Michigan Avenue, I was in there recently checking out rooms for a business conference, I can give :thumbsup :thumbsup with confidence.

Just about any major chain hotel in Chicago is ok, avoid the Tokyo Hotel unless slumming it is in your cards. :1orglaugh

Let's be honest guys...On game day getting to Wrigley is a pain in the ass. But for the most part it is a fun pain in the ass:thumbsup

Going to Great America is a bigger pain in the ass...Take them to one of the great museums, Millenium Park and other stuff in the city. More than enough stuff to do without going to never never land in Gurnie:thumbsup
