WTF Is This Shit? New ICANN Domain Fee
I was registering some domains at godaddy and just saw this...
(Its on the page right before you check out) ------------ Fee charged by ICANN This mandatory fee is charged by ICANN (Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers: www.icann.org). and becomes effective on November 1, 2004. It is 25 cents per domain name registration year. Thus, the fee on a one year .com registration would be 25 cents. The fee would be 50 cents for a two year registration (i.e. 25 cents times 2). Additional years would be at 25 cents per year. ICANN fees apply to .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and .name. -------------- Anyone have info on this? Is this a new mandatory fee with all registrars now? |
its just 25 mother fucking cents bro...

Is this why I've been getting HEAPS of ICANN /whois confirmations? Making sure all my domain info is correct?
GDmit, I hate it when new fees are just 'applied' without any word of warning - shouldn't our registrars have told us about this?? :( |

"At least annually, a registrar must present to the registrant the current Whois information, and remind the registrant that provision of false Whois information can be grounds for cancellation of their domain name registration. Registrants must review their Whois data, and make any corrections." |
I regged 2 domains a week ago and I didn't have to pay an extra 50 cent fee.

All renewals will have 25 cents tacked on now? That'd be a lot of money.

WTF!
Registrars Approve Fee Structure in Fiscal Year 2004?05 Budget As of this date, ICANN has received the requisite two-thirds vote from registrars approving the registrar fee structure defined in the fiscal year 2004?05 ICANN budget. As described in the Registrar Accreditation Agreement, the vote percentage was calculated by projecting fees paid by each registrar for the upcoming fiscal year and weighting the individual votes by those fees. The fee structure will become effective 1 November 2004. The fees are defined in the current version of the adopted ICANN budget for fiscal year 2004?2005 <http://www.icann.org/financials/budg...5-06oct04.html>. 12 October 2004 |
