Monitor Settings...please Help

I brought my compaq presario 2500 in to be fixed.. they put a new monitor on it.. but now my screen resolution is fucked up and everything is annoyingly HUGE.. I went into properties/settings/screen resolution but I only have 2 settings 1024x768 or 800x600 both of which are HUGE on this screen.. Can anyone help? Do I need to download a driver?

under your settings for your monitor what type of monitor does it say.. also what type of graphics card for your video driver.. might just be a default plug n play that is selected
