need pc help asap.

I can start my pc in safe mode just fine. however, when I try to boot it up normally it says Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. System halted.
It says this everytime. What's the problem and how do I fix it? :feels-hot

the best way to fix this is to get a copy of 2k or xp and re-format your HD. shame on you for using ME.

xp's restore feature - invaluble!!

sharpx9 10-30-2004 01:02 AM

It's an older PC. I have xp on the laptop I'm posting from. I just reformatted the other day. So am I pretty much just fucked here and need to reformat or what?

When was the last time, you were able to login successfully? Did your computer crash? Did you install any hardware?

en1 10-30-2004 01:02 AM

boot into safe mode......disable all unneeded hard ware.....then reboot...most likely a conflict....

James White 10-30-2004 01:03 AM

Man there could be multiple reasons it did this, but to make it quick and simple.. serious upgrade the OS (Operating System) Windows ME has like 60,000+ bugs in it (honestly, no shit) get ANYTHING.. Win98SE or XP... u can just upgrade to one instead of reformatting.

aflex 10-30-2004 01:04 AM

buy a new HD, install 2k on the new HD for the old pc. Take the PC's original HD and install it as a slave.. copy over any files you need to your new harddrive.

Try this...

Command Prompt (Press F8) and then u have to give the command on C:\scanreg /restore. Press enter this will scan your registry...

If the problem still persist, then u have to remove physical memory and then restart it again.

Vitasoy 10-30-2004 01:12 AM

scanreg /fix - To Fix Registry ( May fix sometimes )
scanreg /restore ( for Restoring )
