Having your own merchant account in membership sites...

How much would you think you should be processing per month until its worth having your own merchant account rather than a 3rd party processor cause i wana be my own processor and fly to curracco in a lear jet like the two big ones did

20k a month or anything if you can get one. Just use netbilling or some one to handle support.

well the common wisdom is that if you are taking alot of traffic from affiliates you won't be able to hang on to a merchant account, that's pretty obvious since u don't see any large programs using their own merchants anymore - you get TMF'ed on your own merchant account and you can't go back to 3rd party - well not without some hassles setting up a new company with you hidden in the background.

merchant account is a good thing to have in case of disaster in the 3rd party processing biz or if you run paysites without many affiliates.

Actually it should always be worth it if you pay less percents for processing and if you have a good transaction history with your current 3rd party biller it isn't a problem either.

Just make sure that the scrubbing percent isn't too high.

you run a legit ship you have no problems but when you payout 35 bucks plus per signup and your members area is shit you have to rely on dirty tricks and thats best done using a third party

legit sites have no problems at all.

A little far-fetched?

ya but what good would it be if a 3rd party processor folds and you wont be able to transfer all those members credit cards over to another merchant account?

SinSational 10-30-2004 01:32 AM

i don't think it is up to us to determine whether we get a merchant account. it's 3rd party processor's unless you are bringing in some $$$

martyVP 11-01-2004 10:25 PM

its not worth it unless over $250k per month....

Realwild-Terry 11-01-2004 10:32 PM

Using your own merchant account is like pissing on an electric fence.
