you're right about that.. and computers have gone down in price so much lately, I wonder if there's even going to be a market for used ones after a while

JSA Matt 10-29-2004 05:59 PM

"gaming computer" with a shitty 64MB ATI card? get with it! :)

Vitasoy 10-29-2004 06:03 PM

My initial reaction... slow old pc. =)

unless you were doing video editing i dont think you would really need more just running ps and note pad or what ever html editor you use

maybe for spammers they need more processor for their software

Explicit 10-29-2004 06:07 PM

its worth 180 bucks though

what's a good video card for gaming? Not the top of the line but something good

Jarmusch 10-29-2004 06:15 PM

You would probably get more money out of it by taking it appart and selling individual parts.

seriously, your bids for about $150 are accurate, the thing is a pile of crap and looks like it was made from spare parts...

a good card would be 128mb minimum, and even thats considered low-end right now.

it WAS made from spare parts

here's what I'm doing.. my 13 yr old boys built this, and they're learning about computers, how to build and repair them.

I don't know much about them myself, what I'm doing is teaching them how to run a business by letting them buy used parts and putting them together

and you said a 128mb minimum.. but then you said that's considered low end.. tell me one that would be impressive but not so costly it would be out of range for the average person

I can't argue with that, keep it up :)

I good card, decently priced, would probably be around the range of a geForce FX 5900 (256mb). They run for about $200-$280. The high-end cards are running at over $550 (geForce 6800 Ultra
:Graucho)

I also recommend the geForce Ti series cards, they are low priced and powerful.

I would also avoid buying old harddrives, especially if they are Western Digital. You can pick up brand new 160GB Seagate drives for ~$100, so 50GB of drives that will most likely crash and burn (literally) within a couple weeks is no good.

I had to start one more sentence with "I" :glugglug

Jarmusch 10-29-2004 06:27 PM

I would consider a radeon 9600 the bare minimum nowadays. That radeon 7200 is not a gaming card, at least not for modern games. Some games won't even load if you have a 64mb card.

ahh.... thanks for the tips Matt, I'm paying attention to what you're saying.

so far we've done very well.. for example, that computer only cost us $82 to build.. but I want to experiment with higher end ones and laptops too.. we've bought and sold a few cheap old laptops, and people want them but they want good ones

Thurbs 10-29-2004 06:48 PM

don't let the fucking retards of GFY tell you a bunch of bullshit, it's a great thing for you and the kids to be working on and having fun with as well as them learning a lot of different things.

and the reality is that computer even with the specs it has is well suited for 90% of the computer population even though these fucking webmaster nerds are too smart for themselves and can't see it

Thanks Digipimp.. actually I wasn't offended, and I WAS trying to spam my content sale.. I knew I'd get flamed for that, but oh well..

you know, it's funny, a lot of the people here would rather read nonsense threads than spam threads.. I don't feel that way but it's amazing how many here do

I actually like seeing people's advertising so I can find out who does what.. like right now.. I need a programmer, and I don't know one personally darnit.. but that may change soon :)

Clicked on your (kids) ebay listing. Sorry but that is a shitty computer. If you are really teaching your sons business sense, rule one: know what you are selling and the market.

BTW, 512 mb is the minimum at retail stores selling their junk.

Show me the type of computer hardware you can sell at 100% markup on e-bay...

If you could keep it up 190 on an 82$ investment is awesome :thumbsup

Sorry Tia... Please show us your tits:thumbsup

pussyluver 10-29-2004 09:42 PM

Those kids prolly made more selling computers this week than many webmasters do here.

They don't have to have high expectations or shoot for the game guys. There are tons of people around that just want email, the web at any speed and a Word Processor. So PCs with those specs work. A little more RAM - for sure - double it.

As for harddrives. The quality has gotten a lot better and prices are right. Someone said used HDs are risky. They are. Still, say they do a day or two burn in on a system and its still working. It gets someone a computer on the cheap and makes those boys some bucks.

Bet there are plenty of smaller harddrives around they could get cheap. :thumbsup

I won't argue on that point.. but my main purpose is to show them how to make money.. they made a 127% profit..

soooo... wouldn't you say that proves we know the market? I did research this quite a bit before we did it

sorry, but what you said makes no sense

I've wondered that too... "spam" is usually biz related, but always gets flamed. Yet someone can post about how big of a shit they took last night and people don't seem to mind.
