Affiliate Newsletters - I DO NOT WANT THEM!!!

how fucking hard is it for a program to take me off the email list without disabling my affiliate account?

i just had a nice exchange of email with a larger affiliate company....and here is how is started:

me: UNSUBSCRIBE

them: your account is now disabled

me: i don't want my account disabled, i just don't want your silly newsletter

them: sorry, we can't do that, the newsletter program grabs the email list from the affiliates listed in our system, there is no unsubscribe

how fucking stupid is that shit? and wouldn't that be considered spam if I opt out of a mailing and they refuse?

and how hard is it to program an unsubscribe option? not at all!

After seeing the title I thought you were referring to WolfsCash :)

we use a seperate email program that you can easily unsubscribe from at any time with a few clicks (its double opt out).

That's pretty naive to complain about though. Legally, situations arise that require affiliate programs to contact you if necessary. Sure, affiliate programs can break out their webmaster databases to compensate for the difference between general announcements and urgent notifications- but, disabling an account of a webmaster who requests off the mailer seems more than fair and reasonably protective to me.

swedguy 10-27-2004 06:25 PM

But seriously. How often do you get it and how hard is it to press delete?

Why?
I can easily email all of the webmasters in the event it is URGENT info. Otherwise if they do not wish to recieve periodic updates and non urgent program info, I let them unsubscribe from my general update list.

Here's a quick and easy solution.

Email 1: Only given out to friends and family.

Email 2: Only given out for "required registrations" of misc shit.

Email 3: Only given out to register for programs.

That way when these idiotic moronic programs sell your email address to surfer spam lists, and you start getting shit inviting you to sign up for someone's porn site, you'll know it was an idiotic moronic affiliate program. It works wonders for me.

Better way to catch them is use affiliateprogramname @yourdomain.com
then when you get an email that is not from that program you know who sold you.

directfiesta 10-27-2004 06:41 PM

add their name to your message rule.

I've done that, but I think they just delete their company name off the front of the address because it's kind of obvious what the intention is.

Now I just get completely random shit and it all goes to me anyway. I block 20+ new spams a day which does a decent job at holding back the flow. Haven't really used the filters yet though.

so, someone not wanting to get email is grounds for a disabling of their account? that seems way unrationale

i bet if sleazydream or thehun bitched about getting the mailer, theyt would think twice about disabling their account

i guess it is all right though, even though I only have 500 or so SE hits to that sponsor daily, i went ahead and changed links to a sponsor that gives a shit abotu what I think
