Sheep are inevitable
Even in bee hives and ant colonies, you have "scouts" who will always test the water first and then go back to the rest and tell of their findings. Then once the news is revealed to the others, if it is exciting enough, the rest will get involved but they will never seek anything on their own. It goes back to the earliest and simplest of organisms and their need for "community" and "acceptance". This is why 90% of all human population is gathered together in clumps. Humans have the same needs as do ants. Some lead but most follow the fruits of others labors.
Test this theory. Lay out a piece of bread on your counter or on your patio. Watch closely as one or two ants come and consume. Watch again as they fill up and then slowly make their way back to their colony. They aren't going slow because they are full and lethargic, they are actually laying down a "scent trail" for their colony to follow back to the food source. Within an hour or so you will have 300 - 1000 ants back on that piece of bread. But it took the balls of the scout ant to find the source or the rest of the colony would have starved. Any community is a pathetic waste without those who will live on the edge and always ask questions and seek their own results. |
