my Porsche dealer called today, out of the blue...

and told me they had two different guys interested in buying my 2003 911 C4S, and what were my plans with the car?

of course he also mentioned that he'd been allocated a 2005 twin turbo s cabriolet, factory build (so i could hand pick the options), delivery in April. and would i be interested in that, if i was to sell my current 911? either way, he was prepared to turn over my C4S (for a very good price actually) in a heartbeat regardless of whether or not i bought the turbo.

i've never had a dealer try something like this before. seems pretty strange, no?

Dawgy 10-26-2004 04:55 PM

im sure he'll make a little profit, as well as sell you that badass 2005 model :glugglug

detoxed 10-26-2004 04:57 PM

if someone wants a certain car he has to find it for them, down to the certain options... chances are no nearby dealers had the 2003 with your options, so he had to look at private owners

Theo 10-26-2004 04:58 PM

SELL SELL

and then

BUY BUY

Methodcash Rick 10-26-2004 04:59 PM

I had my dealer do the same with me with my 99 996 C4 Cabriolet, on a 2001 Porsche Turbo Coupe...

At the time I was happy with the 996, and didn't want a coupe, so I passed on the deal..

So I'd say it's not that strange.

Pretty typical. Even on mainstream cars. I personally think it is a sales tactic.

My Yugo dealer called me today. said I was two months late on payments.

Minte 10-26-2004 05:04 PM

The turbo cab..

Probably the best overall sportscar on the road today.

Take it for a testdrive..and i know you will get it. :)

Oh WOW, that is just pure beauty.

angelsofporn 10-26-2004 05:10 PM

YUGO!!

quiet 10-26-2004 05:11 PM

i would never buy a 997 S. still doesn't look as good as the C4S imo, and no way i'd go back to two wheel drive. and the turbo is years away. and a turbo cab is possibly not ever going to happen.

anyway, i have to also say that these guys are the very best i've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. truly great customer service.

Minte - i'm sure i'd love it. but it's almost as expensive as a Gallardo. of course no drop top with that, but still. bah, who knows :)

tranza 10-26-2004 05:16 PM

That happens all the time over here...

hova 10-26-2004 05:19 PM

Thats usual here, but the quality dealers dont do it

I agree, Porsche calls me at least once a month. They even dropped off the Cayenne to see if I want to borrow it, so I would buy it.

So I suppose you want me to send you the $25 I owe you to cover them?

not really -- think about it. First, he makes at least one sale when he sells your car to the other guy, then if you buy the new car he makes money from that also.

PLUS

this way both buyers are happy - the other guy is happy this dealer went out and found the car he wanted to buy and you are happy he hooked you up (both in giving you a good price for your old car and in hooking up the new factory build car). And any good seller knows a happy customer returns.

Its allllllllllll about the $$$$$$

Chichio 10-26-2004 05:36 PM

I'd say that he's a car salesman. No matter how nice, he's trying to dick you over one way or the other. :2 cents: :)

I agree

quiet 10-26-2004 05:38 PM

of course it's all about the money. but with all the cars i've owned over the years, this is the first time something like this has happened. just thought it was kind of weird.

it happens, especially when there's a lack of nice cars out there. they make some cash on the deal.

lagwagon 10-26-2004 05:48 PM

damn that is gorgeous car.
