need some tips regarding Canon 20D

hi!

looking into buying that camera - what i have seen so far looks quite good. but who could recommend a nice universal lens that lets me shoot full body shots as well as pussy closeups? i'm not interested in changing lenses for that. who has already some experiences with that?

thx

you can do this with every lens, you just have to move your ass :-)

Seriously: The 20D has already a very high resolution which craves for good glass.
If you are on a low budget I would recommend the 24-85mm or the 28-105IS from Canon. These lenses are good but you won't get the quality the 20D can produce.

The best option would be the 24-70mm 2.8L but you will pay almost the same for the Lens as for the Body :-) (But you will still be able to use the lens when the Body Number has moved from 20D to 70D) :-) This is an investment for the next 10 years at least.

I had the 24-85mm and switched to the 24-70 when I owned a D60. When I compared pictures from both lenses it was like day and night from the details, sharpness.

Have fun with your new camera!

thanks a lot for that info. i'm willing to spend some money on the lens because i want good results. it's not that i am looking for the cheapest solution. so i will have a look at the 24-70 2.8L

and i know i have to move - hehe. but some days ago i saw a photographer using a lens that forced him to nearly crawl into the model for taking a closeup. and i prefer a bit of distance - also for not throwing shadows. :Graucho

the good thing with the 24-70 and 20D combination is the 1.6 Multiplier of the 20D. So you have a decent wide angle 38mm to light tele 116mm, so the 116 mm should give you enough space between you and the model if shooting closeups. The lens can even do macro shots, if you need this. And you will see each single hair (but all impurities of the skin too) with this lens :-)

If I have plenty of room (only when shooting in the studio or outdoors) I use the 70-200IS 2.8 thats a very nice lens too, but not an all around lens.

after i have seen the price for the 24-70 i would have to sell some stuff first :1orglaugh

you are right - more or less exactly the same price as the body. but the features of the lens sound impressive - so we think we have to buy that one. thanks again! :)
