murray_dawg 10-25-2004 10:00 AM

I fill up around 3/4 empty. 1/4 left in tank.

dodger21 10-25-2004 10:02 AM

Once the red light comes on, I know I have 40 miles to go.

beemk 10-25-2004 10:03 AM

usually 1/4 tank

Herb Kornfield 10-25-2004 10:09 AM

Thanks Dubya for the mile high gas prices....:321GFY

Sosa 10-25-2004 10:09 AM

Peaches 10-25-2004 10:14 AM

During the summer, never below 1/4 of a tank. During the winter never below 1/2 a tank. I don't know why since we don't have bad winters here, but I'm ready if we do :thumbsup

PersianKitty 10-25-2004 10:23 AM

1/4 tank

To me the more interesting question would be..

do you fill your tank all the way when you get gas or do you just put in $5 or $10 or $20 worth?

Magg 10-25-2004 10:26 AM

fill it all the way up

NinjaSteve 10-25-2004 10:28 AM

I wait until the gas light goes on, and then I drive about 20 miles. Then I fill it up.

Always have filled it all the way - well, except for when I was in college when I was known to put in a $1 in change into it. :winkwink:

Lace 10-25-2004 10:36 AM

On the way back from Pittsburg yesterday we had nothing...just got to a gas station in time :1orglaugh Light had been on for a good 15-20 minutes

Lucy 10-25-2004 10:43 AM

usually 1/4 tank:)

mardigras 10-25-2004 10:45 AM

I let it get near the E then fill it up.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 10-25-2004 10:47 AM

when I am driving..maybe a 1/4 tank.. hubby uses it more and likes to leave it on below empty..takes about $50 to fill it.. we spend about $300 a month on gas... I hate it. Snowboard season kills us.. we spend about $600 a month then..

WWC - Jimmy 10-25-2004 10:48 AM

1/4 tank is the lowest I go. Any lower, and you're simply shortening your fuel pump's lifespan (dirt particles at the bottom, etc).

Goatse 10-26-2004 04:22 PM

I always keep it over half-full, unless I'm on a long drive and I don't feel like stopping to fill it up.

nibbi 10-26-2004 04:31 PM

It feels like my tank is always on empty. My wife gets so pissed at me when she takes my car... she is always running late and hates having to stop to get gas in my car.

bdld 10-26-2004 04:56 PM

i always fill 'er up when i get to around 1/4th left.

colpanic 10-26-2004 04:58 PM

Today I was sputtering when I took sharp turns... Knew it was time for some gas :)

EvilMichelle 10-26-2004 06:04 PM

Always try to fil up at the 1/4 mark...

but one time I wasn't paying attention and I ran out on the freeway!

Babagirls 10-26-2004 06:05 PM

1/4 of a tank or below (unless im goin
on some road trip out of town)

you should always use as much gas
without going to low, to use the "old"
gas first. better for the engine.

Lykos 10-26-2004 06:20 PM

Never less then 1/4 :)

$tandaman 10-26-2004 06:23 PM

My Bmw tells me exactly how many miles left...
turns out once it gets to about 7 miles, it's on reserve, and stays there for a while :)

So you can see how empty i let it run :)

rowan 10-26-2004 07:41 PM

I've heard that driving to near empty is more likely to push gunk sitting at the bottom of your tank into the fuel filter... maybe that's just a myth though?

My car reminds me when there's 80km, 60km, 40km, 20km left. It's supposed to anyway, the other day I noticed the fuel light was on, checked it manually and I was down to 24km left! Had to turn off the a/c and ease off the pedal a little to make it to the next station.
:winkwink:

Nanda 10-26-2004 07:49 PM

When I drive never lower then half, when my husband uses it more...almost to empty...:warning
