how empty do you let your car get?
 

Never below half a tank

and gass bill montthly is max 50$ :)

I fill up around 3/4 empty. 1/4 left in tank.

Once the red light comes on, I know I have 40 miles to go.

usually 1/4 tank

1/4th tank.... then its time for a $50 dollar fill for my Durango...

when the light comes in, and even then i dont want to bother going to the gas station :1orglaugh

During the summer, never below 1/4 of a tank. During the winter never below 1/2 a tank. I don't know why since we don't have bad winters here, but I'm ready if we do :thumbsup

To me the more interesting question would be..

do you fill your tank all the way when you get gas or do you just put in $5 or $10 or $20 worth?

I wait until the gas light goes on, and then I drive about 20 miles. Then I fill it up.

Always have filled it all the way - well, except for when I was in college when I was known to put in a $1 in change into it. :winkwink:

On the way back from Pittsburg yesterday we had nothing...just got to a gas station in time :1orglaugh Light had been on for a good 15-20 minutes

I let it get near the E then fill it up.

when I am driving..maybe a 1/4 tank.. hubby uses it more and likes to leave it on below empty..takes about $50 to fill it.. we spend about $300 a month on gas... I hate it. Snowboard season kills us.. we spend about $600 a month then..

1/4 tank is the lowest I go. Any lower, and you're simply shortening your fuel pump's lifespan (dirt particles at the bottom, etc).

I always keep it over half-full, unless I'm on a long drive and I don't feel like stopping to fill it up.

It feels like my tank is always on empty. My wife gets so pissed at me when she takes my car... she is always running late and hates having to stop to get gas in my car.

i always fill 'er up when i get to around 1/4th left.

Today I was sputtering when I took sharp turns... Knew it was time for some gas :)

Always try to fil up at the 1/4 mark...

but one time I wasn't paying attention and I ran out on the freeway!

without going to low, to use the "old"
gas first. better for the engine.

My Bmw tells me exactly how many miles left...
turns out once it gets to about 7 miles, it's on reserve, and stays there for a while :)

So you can see how empty i let it run :)

I've heard that driving to near empty is more likely to push gunk sitting at the bottom of your tank into the fuel filter... maybe that's just a myth though?

My car reminds me when there's 80km, 60km, 40km, 20km left. It's supposed to anyway, the other day I noticed the fuel light was on, checked it manually and I was down to 24km left! Had to turn off the a/c and ease off the pedal a little to make it to the next station.
