Quitting Smoking with a Smoker Who Won't

Have any of you successfully quit smoking while your husband/wife continues to smoke?

If so, any ideas as to how to go about not murdering them or being the typical X-Smoker (I don't want to be like all those ex smokers out there!)

I really want to quit, I've been smoking for 17 years straight and it's really caught up to me :( So any advice is muchly appreciated.

It's going to be very difficult trying to quit if your significant other continues smoking :2 cents:

I know...I've tried before and it's very hard especially living in Canadian mountains/boonies, it's very cold this time of year and I don't want to make him go outside or anything like that.

:(

I've been wondering for a while since we want to spend a year or too in the Northwest boonies far from highly populated areas, how is the Internet speed situation in your area? Is it easy to get fast access?

It depends on where you go, some areas don't even have anything better than 56k (if even that lol).
Cable was just introduced where we live about 3 years ago but it's a really decent connection here.
No DSL here yet, but if you go to the Telus website you can find the areas that they offer dsl to.

And Satellite is always an option, I guess. I hear it's getting to be better than cable which is now apparently better than dsl recently.

(Not sure anything I just said helped at all lol)

You are playing with your life. Tell the fucker to go outside.

Do something else instead of smoking.

Ok, first of all please do NOT call my husband a "fucker", ok? Thank you :)

And no, if he wishes to go outside to smoke to help me, that's up to him. He's an adult and this is his house too.
It's not only him going outside, of course there will always be smokes around as long as he smokes, so inside or out the problem exists.

I'm going to kick it, this is just an excuse like any other I suppose.

Success stories would be nice. How'd you do it? Is cold turkey a myth?
Any websites dedicated to this other than the obvious?

Maybe I should just give myself shock therapy.

No no...I may like that and smoke MORE! :winkwink:

My dad did it too... so it must be a matter of willpower imo.

Look at it this way..

You'll end up dying of a lung cancer anyway because of his second hand smoke. But a couple of years later.. So you will have time to enjoy his life insurance..

So quit smoking for you and enjoy life.

Losing years of life because of a nicotine addiction is kinda dumb.

Would your husband be willing to quit for you so you can both enjoy healther lives together. Ive recently given up and although my partner doesnt smoke, she has been asking me do quit for a long time, it suddenly hit me that if I didnt quit I may become seriously ill and may not be able to enjoy her company anymore. If your husband gives up he will be doing both of you a favour. :)

Smoking has never had any positive effect on a person so if I were you I would just tell him that is he loves you quit and if he doesn't love you enough for that is he really worth being with?
