V_RocKs 10-25-2004 02:38 AM

So I take my 15 yr old daughter out to learn to drive.

Went to a parking lot that is very large and all gravel and dirt. It has semi barried telephone poles that are lying down as seperators running parallel to eachother. Cars park head on into them. You get the idea.

Everything is going great and then she mixes up gas and break and launches toward one of the poles and flies over it. We must have gotten about 1 1/2 feet of air. Then really jams the gas and lauches an extra foot on the next one.

I own a Jeep Cherokee so it is taking the beating pretty good at this point. But she is hitting each poll a little faster than the last one and it is turning into something akin to a bucking bronco ride. We are on about the 9th one and I grab her leg and pull it up off the gas, this freaks her out and she cranks the wheel to the right as she moves left to get away from my hand. Now we are going over them diagonally and our heads are banging the windows.

I grab the e-brake and yank it as hard as I can and the left tire locks and we straighten out a bit and come to rest about 6 inches from the only parked car in the whole entire parking lot. By the end she has jumped over about 12 poles.

She looks at me and starts crying. She doesn't want to drive anymore. Part of me feels sorry for her. Another says, Thank God you don't because if that was a freeway.. fuck!

Should I send her to a professional driving instructor or is this normal for girls? My 13 years old son already can drive it on the road and off the road like it was second nature. I was the same way at his age. Used to borrow the parents cars when they were on vacation and drive to the beach regularly during the summer at 14. She is a step daughter though so I am sure her dad can't drive for shit either.

Manowar 10-25-2004 02:39 AM

You gotta teach her drift first. :winkwink:

Hosting-Quote 10-25-2004 02:40 AM

I could never teach a family members/gf to drive, way to stresfull IMO, I would send her to a professional at least untill she is competent enough to drive, then take her out on your own?

beemk 10-25-2004 02:41 AM

that doesnt sound very normal to me.

V_RocKs 10-25-2004 02:50 AM

OK. Where do you find the professional driving instructors? DMV? School might know? Also high school driving course is a fucking joke now. Back in my day it was a real course, now it blows and doesn't teach them shit.

flashfire 10-25-2004 02:53 AM

sounds normal...some people just get nervous when they are learning to drive especially with a parent. Send her to drivers ed when shes ready to give it another go:thumbsup

kane 10-25-2004 02:55 AM

our local community college has drivers ed classes anyone can take. If you live near a community college you might want to check into it there.

psyko514 10-25-2004 02:56 AM

send her to driver's ed, but only when she's ready, even if it's not for a year or two.

V_RocKs 10-25-2004 03:04 AM

She turns 16 in 5 months. She is supposed to have her permit already but didn't want to get it yet. Totally opposite of me. I was there on my birthday at 7am waiting for the doors to open, took my tests, got my license, dropped dad off at his house and hit some friends houses and went surfing. Got home that night and got more friends together and went driving to Palm Springs just for the drive.

I used to ditch every single Thursday back in high school and take a few friends on field trips. Palm Springs, Mountain High, Snow Summit, Los Angeles Downtown (I dunno, we were kids), Carlsbad to Malibu, Angel Stadium, Mt Baldy, Lake Perris, anywhere you could shoot a gun without attracting cops, Knotts, Disneyland, you name it, we did it.

women cant drive

graphicsbytia 10-25-2004 03:11 AM

It sounds like she's not that keen on learning how to drive.

Why don't you just let it go for now and wait until she can take drivers ed in school when she wants to. Learning to drive should be fun, not something that makes you cry :(

Nicky 10-25-2004 03:16 AM

holy shit, send her to some proffessional before she kills you man :-)

Babagirls 10-25-2004 03:16 AM

holy shit! lol

definatly send that girl to Drivers Ed!!!
Schools usually have them.

If not, just call your local DMV and
they'll give you a list of local
driving schools. :)

eiht_98 10-25-2004 04:39 AM

:1orglaugh imagine if you had a BMW or a Benz and not a Jeep Cherokee

Fukeneh 10-25-2004 04:45 AM

take her to go drive go-karts, or let her drive the cart next to you go golfing, its bonding, and its fun for the kids :)

fr33s3x 10-25-2004 04:49 AM

I think she freaked out. Try again when she's 16.

polish_aristocrat 10-25-2004 04:53 AM

She's just 15, you can wait like 2 years.
Is she really interested in it?
If not, this might be the problem.

Herb Kornfield 10-25-2004 05:16 AM

Start her out slow and build it up.

Start out just going around in 1st gear... once she can handle the car and not be out of control, move up to 2nd, repeat and then let her have the whole range of speed to prove that she can drive safely.

No matter where you live in the world, you are going to have learn how to drive around other people, pedestrians, and be prepared for all kinds of funky shit that happens on the road.

Cars CAN kill you (as well, many others) if are you arent careful. :thumbsup

Living For Today 10-25-2004 05:19 AM

Uhm. She's a woman?

That should explain it.

Otherwise......Wait a year or so. There's no rush. Sounds like it's probably best to go to the instructor first though.

jacked 10-25-2004 05:22 AM

seems normal to me woman just can't drive :1orglaugh

xclusive 10-25-2004 05:26 AM

That sucks but on the bright side niether of you got hurt...

wyldblyss 10-25-2004 05:38 AM

Send her for driving lessons. Some boys find it easier to drive simply because of all the time they spend playing certain video games (according to this article I read a while back). She also might feel extra nervous around you so sending her for lessons might give her the confidence she needs.

mightyjoe 10-25-2004 05:45 AM

pic?

infecto 10-25-2004 05:50 AM

Holy shit dude thats some scarey stuff. I know when I first started to drive I was a bit nervous and made some minor mistakes here and there but never hit anything or did anything like that.

LadyMischief 10-25-2004 06:31 AM

Your best bet is to send her to driver training... If she has no confidence she will be an unsafe driver, it's almost as dangerous as being too confident. Not only will it help teach her what she needs to know, oftentimes sending a kid through driver training will give you insurance breaks too.

Spunky 10-25-2004 06:34 AM

Let a profesional driver instructor have all the stress

DM4U 10-25-2004 06:35 AM

I would definetely send her to driving school. Teaching family is hard , for me at least, i dont have patience at all for that shit.

But it sounds weird, she probably wants to race jeje.

Good luck with that:BangBang:

NiTe-HaWk 10-25-2004 07:00 AM

I did something like that the first time I tried to drive a stickshift car. lol

Goatse 10-26-2004 03:36 PM

We all stink when we first start driving. At least I didn't have some creep trying to grab my leg when I fucked up.

evanmorgan 10-26-2004 03:42 PM

C - B - A

goBigtime 10-26-2004 03:46 PM

12 POLES?!

Holy shit.

I would have had my hand on the Ebrake when we got too close to pole #1.

Wtf.

Lace 10-26-2004 03:46 PM

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

How can you mix up the gas and brake?

Next time try teaching her how to drive a manual...:1orglaugh

all kidding aside, sit down with her and explain it to her first before just shoving her into a car.

i learned to drive (a car) when i was about 11...

Been driving boats since i was 2on my grandfathers lap, dirtbikes and 4 wheelers since about 8, and crotch rockets a few months.

Brat 10-26-2004 03:50 PM

I'm a girl and I can drive stick. And I drive damn good too. I went to courses that also trained me how to avoid collisions and such. Pretty pricey but it was totally worth it.

nofx 10-26-2004 03:51 PM

my best advice would be to kill her.

kill her, have sex with your wife until she becomes pregnant, and just hope that your new child will be a better driver.
