What I learned in NYC...

This is what I learned in NYC my first time there on the ground.

1. When the light changes to green, that means blow the horn. It's like a rule or something. I actually became quite accustomed to it.

2. Getting lost in the Bronx for 3 hours at night with Virginia tags isn't really a whole lot of fun. I found White Castle though so that was a good thing.

3. Long Island is really beautiful as is the city. I had a different picture in my head of what everything would be like but it was really cool to say the least.

4. Those fucking onions they put on the hotdogs are like a fucking drug or something.

Hats off to you resident New Yorkers. That place is wild for sure. I do however have one question. I kept seeing signs for the "Bronx Zoo"...

...Is there parts of the Bronx that aren't a zoo?

Wrong. You're actually supposed to blow your horn about half a second before the light changes green.

I also learned that people who double park...sometimes open the door to get out. Strangest thing I ever seen...

i suggest to anyone that hasnt been to nyc to hit all 5 boroughs and get a taste of real life, culture, and energy.

:thumbsup

i have dozens of hidden spots i go to just for food, or atmosphere, and most people would think they were in the ghetto

Be sure to try a NYC taxi cab ride sometime.

There is nothing quite like it and it beats out any ride at Disneyland.

I don't know how they don't crash and kill people, they come within inches of a collision the whole ride.

yoooooooooo, i love taking cabs, no where else in the world will you get that "Rally racing" feel going from one side of the city to the other

Biggy2 10-24-2004 10:07 PM

did you have the opportunity of getting stuck inside the box on a red light while 100 pedestrians walk across the street both in front and behind your car giving you dirty looks? :)

Sosa 10-24-2004 10:11 PM

heh when I was there 4 years ago I about got hit by a few cabs just walking lol. When it says walk, you still fucking look around to make sure those fucking cabs are going through red lights.

Thurbs 10-24-2004 10:12 PM

u should try making it impossible for ppl to get in a crowded subway car, they love that too.

yep - a horse drawn carriage is nicer though, allows you to look up and really take in the skyscrappers.

Rochard 10-24-2004 11:04 PM

Try getting in cab for a trip that normally takes about twenty mintues and tell him you'll tip him $100 if he makes it there in seven mintues.

Sure beats Disneyland or Six Flaggs!

We have an odd thing here in Phoenix. It's a rule here that when the light turns green you still have to wait about twenty seconds for everyone to make it through the light.

tony286 10-24-2004 11:12 PM

insightful observations

SpikeHeel 10-24-2004 11:20 PM

hehehe.that must be something interesting to learned! so before you go to some place, try to learn their custom and culture.

What the fuck is up with that?

My favorite thing about Manhattan is the way most roads are 3 or 4 lanes wide with NO lines painted on them, and the few that do have lines are there only as a suggestion.

Sounds like taking a taxi in Nassau. Fun ride, owning a nice car down there would be a bad idea.

reynold 10-25-2004 02:52 AM

would love to live there. but the taxes

Well $7 in most places but I found this nice little place in the Bronx where the guy was selling them for $4 a pack and making change from his pocket. I didn't ask...I said thank you and drove away.

We did roll through China Town on our way out. It was fucking amazing man. The energy was something like I have never experienced. We are really looking forward to going back and hooking up with some NYC locals that can show us the ins and outs. It may be my new most favorite place in the world.

NickPapageorgio 10-25-2004 03:48 AM

I think though, what affected me the most, was just the architecture and the historical beauty of the city. Riding into Manhattan, I just got a real sense of history and I was imagining how many lives that city has touched and how many years of sweat and blood went into building it. I was awestruck to say the least.

Try it on a harley, its like dodging bullets.
Its a HUGE Rush and you can always find a free parking spot.

5. If you have lots of boxes and bags, no cabbie will stop. If you try to stop them, they will try to run you over.

That sounds more like it. It must take some people a while to figure that out.

jollyperv 10-25-2004 05:35 AM

Here's what I learned the last time I went....don't drink beer on the street, even in a brown bag....fucks are walking around undercover just waiting to give you a ticket.

If you want to experience the real energy and excitement next time check out the night life at NYC night clubs.

We ended up staying in Westbury and I thought it was gorgeous. We ate at a little diner Sunday morning before shoving off and it was very nice. My wife wants to move to Long Island now actually lol.

I love visiting NYC. I could never live there because there are WAY too many people for me, but every once in a while it's a BLAST!! :)
