My Cousin had a massive heart attack last night.

Freaking me the hell out! My Dad had one in August also.

What freaks me out about my cousin is that he is 2 months younger then I am (we are both 41) He is in perfect shape and very active. Runs three miles everday. He is a running back on a city league football team where he played Friday evening and ran for 183 yards. Nearly no body fat and eats really healthy. Nota sick day in his life and not one sign of any heart issues.

It was so massive that when they took him in for surgery his he had only 20% use of his heart. After a quad bypass he came out this morning with still only 50% use of his heart. The attack pretty much tore his heart part they said. The Doctors are watching him over the next couple days, but they have already added him to the heart doner list. They are pretty sure he will have to undergo a tranplant.

This is a clean livin guy. Wonderful family... with three young kids. Church every Sunday. He does not drink, smoke and there has never been any drugs. Works out and in perfect shape. WTF?

What is really freaking me out is that im the one that should be having a heart attack. Im a bit overweight, I dont work out... I drink, I party now and then and when I do its pretty hard. I eat like shit and I have a wild schedule. Im the one that should be there... not him. :(

Anyways, I dont know why I am sharing it here. Just rattled I guess.

Time to find Jesus.... NOT!... but it does make ya think.

Watch out. You might be next.

TheMob 10-24-2004 03:33 PM

Wow, sorry to hear about that. Someone I knew's father died of lung cancer and never ever smoked a fucking cigarette. It's a nasty world.

xenigo 10-24-2004 03:34 PM

That's some pretty scary shit dude. Freaks me out just hearing about that.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Life is weird. Some people work so hard to stay in shape and wind up with clogged arteries while other people eat nothing but raw pork six meals a day and die at 106 years old.

You shouldn't "be there". Your actual lifestyle is only one of many factors. hell, maybe all that athletic shit is what got him. Don't sweat it too hard.

yep, life is fleeting as hell. every single person posting or reading this thread is going to die, and probably in a nasty way. the bane of our existence.

Life's a bitch and then you die; that's why we get high
Cause you never know when you're gonna go.

xclusive 10-24-2004 03:41 PM

Sorry to hear it man but best you can do is just take care of yourself and you will be fine...

Yeah, no shit. Truthfully, I would rather it be me then him. It's just me here. I dont have to worry about the kids and all.

Life is fucked up sometimes thats for sure. Whoever made the rules is a sick mofo.

baddog 10-24-2004 03:50 PM

only the good die young, you have nothing to worry about

gxer 10-24-2004 05:01 PM

you should drink in a regular basis , no jokes.
I mean at least 1 bottle red dry wine per week.
Better 2-3 bottles.
Sport is good till you 30 - then it's a not so good.
I've lost my close friend he was a rugby profi and only 32 y.o - just died at night without any reason.

Drink - is what you need if you have a permanent stress, but
take it without getting drunk :) and you'll be OK.
Life sux - our life is full with all kind of stresses - sport is not
helps here.

[baddog] - that gave me a good laugh. ;)

Sorry to hear about the cousin, as someone said above. Elevating
your heart rate too much at that age might not be the best thing
for your body at that age. "3 miles a day & works out."

Mr Pheer 10-24-2004 05:53 PM

You can be in really good shape and still have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Genetics makes up alot of it. This is why its important to get regular physical checkups.

Hope your cousin pulls thru this.

KRL 10-24-2004 05:59 PM

I got info on the MRI full body scan recently. I asked the rep about the percentages of people who find serious shit wrong inside. The MRI can detect everything fucked up in 3D. Its an amazing machine.

Anyway, something interesting she said was most people who come in who think they are perfectly healthy and look like they would be are often the ones who have problems that have gone un-noticed.

She said one woman came in for example who was perfectly fit, ate well, lived well and she had serious cancer tumors and she didn't even know it.

Another guy walked in perfect shape and had 3 major clogged arteries so bad they wouldn't even let him leave and had him go straight in for surgery. He had no chest pain or anything.

So you never know.

That's why you shouldn't always play by the 'rules'. Being to pure sometimes brings on unnecessary stress...:2 cents:

If that were truly the case... it would have been me instead of him. Trust me... I wish it was me.

I dont have kids and anyone to be responsible for except for myself. If it were me, the impact on others would be greatly reduced. . Not that family wouldnt care, but it cant be an easy situation on three small kids and an wife.

Well, actually the fucked up part is that there is no rest for the wicked . . . . kind of a double whammy . . . . live forever and always busy

Pipecrew 10-24-2004 09:13 PM

I'd be more worried about karma i think, not the shape you are in.

tony286 10-24-2004 09:39 PM
