I think I just got a kick ass idea...
 

Hi,
Like everyone knows, galleries uses a lot of bandwith to run...so, I think I got an idea on how to not pay a dime on bandwith, but make the surfers loads the page from other visitor's connection...

It is basically the way napster was working...except for pics galleries (licensed pics galleries).

When a visitor would open a TGP, it will make the visitor login and when they will visit galleries, it will keep the pics and html on their computer...when another surfer will open the same gallery, instead of downloading it fdrom the server, it will download it from a surfer's computer...

That way, we'll make a lot more cash and visitors will "pay" for surfing porn, by giving a little of their bandwith to other visitors...

I know this is possible, I already talked about it with the programmer of edonkey2k.

Anyway, what I wanted to know is, is it legal to make something like that?

Or is it a kind of hacking in someone's computer and loading files from it?

It would be pretty tough to pull off...

Rod, if you go into someone's harddrive, without their permission, you are breaking several laws...

furthermore, Bearshare already offers free file sharing to anyone that downloads the program. Music, movies, pics, etc, etc, are avail to download.

You could still start your own proggy though.. rarely hurts to try.

Ya... i'd think that would be pretty hard to do... I think many surfer's wouldn't want masses of porn stored on their computers, and i'm sure there are other legal issues that would get in the way... I don't think the whole linespeed thing would be a problem... you can always sort by connection (like napster)... but all in all i don't think it would fly... but don't let me discourage you... good luck!

I would probably be legal if you wuold put a clear disclaimer stating that in exchange of the free pics they had too serve the pics to another visitor. Don't like? Heres a blind link to my blind-sponsor ;P

However that wouldn't work out... there's no way I'd leech a gallery from a 28.8k in japan ;P Especially since he's probably leeching another gallery at the same time :P

This is a business, and bandwidth is a business cost. With paid bandwidth, you get quality, but when you have someone else carry the cost, you get reduced quality, and a reduced chance of making a sale.
