Yahoo only taking paid submissions now?

Just tried to submit my new site to Yahoo and all their "suggest a site" links go to their new express submission ($199) form. Can't find any "submit the old-fashioned way" forms at all.

Glad my other sites are in there already.

As i know, they do not accept adult sites for free at least year or even more. For what You need that form? Forget about it, Submit to google http://www.google.com/addurl.html
May be some yhoo visitors will reach your site through yahoo-google

Are you talking about non adult sites? Because they are $600 and don't go in without paying for quite a while now, I think

Chris R 08-26-2001 04:11 PM

Last time I checked adult were $600 and non adult were $200. The add url form for google is pretty much useless - as google will only list your site if another site links to it, and if it does - google will find it anyway and index it on its own.

But you will get plenty of hits through yahoo. Some sites I get more from google.yahoo than I get from straight google - and some are the other way around.

For more than a year now, Yahoo has had paid submissions.
199. for non adult
600. for adult.

There is no guarantee that your site will be accepted. Only reviewed. There is also a one time appeal process. There are no more free submissions to Yahoo.

Google does take submissions. Sometimes it takes up to six weeks to be listed.

Yahoo is a directory, not a search engine and uses Google as it's search engine. If you get listed on Google, chances are you'll get listed on Google.yahoo.
Google merely replaced Inktomi about a year ago....

My site is kinda adult but I could submit it 2 months before for free

After paying 600 bucks, how much traffic does Yahoo! sends you?

1-2k per day?

Higher?

Thanks,
Steve

After you pay 600, yahoo places you in a "new site" position. The site stays there for a week and expect to receive 1k daily. After that week, the site is moved down alphabetically in the selected category. I got on average 300 hits daily. Now my site is removed from yahoo because i changed sponsors and yahoo didnt appreciate that. I changed sponsors by the way cause this listing wasnt making any $$$ and the sites usually convert.. even tgp traffic

This is why I said submitting was pretty much useless - not that they don't take them - and it doesn't hurt I suppose, but it is a waste of time.

You need at least one link from another site listed with them to get listed. If you have that - you will get listed, if not you won't.

I never submit to google and all of my sites and the ones I optimize for other people are listed with them.

Personally, I would have a hard time shelling out $200, much less $600. But, I know people who swear it is worth the $600. I would rather blow $600 on PPC listings personally.

Four - Six weeks by the way, would be about my experience too. They have been changing recently and I have some high PR sites that have gotten listed quicker, but in general - sites they crawl by the 4-6th are in there by the end of the month - otherwaise it is another month or so wait, but I think that is going to change soon. They seem to be crawling much more rapidly. I usually am crawled within 3 - 5 days of putting up links.

I love google.

Love google, too. They spidered 200 pages of me and all rank pretty well considering that they are brand new and got in at once.

I do not submit to Yahoo anymore. When they were picky you could at least get some decent traffic after you were in. Now they seem to allow more sites to get in, but the traffic is less because of more sites, and my observation is they are tweaking around the ranking algorithm way too often.

And they aren't really responsive even after you paid $600, just form letters.
