To Flash or not to Flash?
 

How many of you use some type of Macromedia Flash or Shockwave in your sites? Does the fancy schmancy shit justify the file size overhead? Wondering if I should create some new Flash for my site or not.

I think flash and shockwave get ridiculous at some point. You should on the intro page add a With flash and Without flash. I run FreeBSD and my browser crashes on some of these stupid flash things. HEY NERDS NEED PORN TOO

I think it's self-indulgent. If I go to a site and see Flash, I'll often hit the BACK button so hard your head'll spin. I don't go around when I surf hoping I'll run into a Flash intro, and I think few people do.

Flash is a cool thing,
you can make very nice animations that are wey smaller then any .gif ones .. You don't need to make whole intro or something, I think the flash banner could work very well.

Flash in consideration is good DONT just add it becasue you can - add it for a point eg u think it will increase sales etc.


Sites completly in flash in my oppinion are a complete no no , u want to surf a site quickly not wait 40 minutes becasue when u click a link a spaceship appears overhead beams u up and then puts u down on another page or some shit like that

Hm, I have noticed that flash banners pull way better then normal banners...

I think flash is good for banners BUT DON'T use large flash intro. Those are for different kind of sites

Making a complete flash site is stupid, but small flash elements are great. Juicylinks page looks good, he stopped on time, more would distract the surfer..

Thanks all..... your input is duly noted. I was mainly thinking of doing maybe the top logo of the page in some very subtle moving kind of thing. Hardly noticeable unless your looking for it. But after thinking about it, unless the file size is smaller than using an image, you're right. It's pretty self-indulgent and mostly a waste of time stroking my own design ego. Not enough people have it and will therefore be redirected to Macromedia to download a program which, a newbie might think is a dialer and say fuck that and NEVER come to your site again.

A lot of people still have DIALUP, and flash will take long to download.

Last of all, advanced flash is SLLLLOOWWW on cheap computers (I just upgraded so I know).

The only plus side is the fact that it looks nice.

Ok here is my real answer make two pages for your visitors one for flash and one for non flash. Just give the visitors the option

Flash kind of sucks, especially if you are looking to do proprietary encryption on a compressed asynchronous raw socket through to a custom threaded protocol.

You should just stick to HTML Five,
it's open source which is great for security.
