check out http://b2evolution.net/. It has most of the features you expect from blog software, and some features that most others don't have. You can run multiple blogs from one admin console, and can cross-post and move entries between blogs. Blogs can have categories, which I think is mandatory.

That being said, if you want to use the multi-blog features, get to know the software and plan it out on paper first.

If you can't spend $20 on a script then you are a LOSER :2 cents:
