Is there any reason to get a flat screen monitor

besides saving space? You just save a couple of inches of space with it right? Is the picture quality better than a CRT?

Depends on the model as far as picture cuality goes but it's a marketing ploy and keeping up with the hendersons kind of thing...

I thought CTR is supposed to be better quality image?

Marcus 10-19-2004 11:02 PM

my eyes do hurt when i look at the screen too long, but I dont know if it's going to be better for my eyes to use a flat screen.

The moment you replace your two 19 inch monitors with flat screens, you rediscover your desk, and all that extra real estate that goes with it.

reynold 10-20-2004 12:41 AM

yeah flat screens save up space and they're pretty nifty to look at too

pussyluver 10-20-2004 12:47 AM

A glass CRT typically has better resolution and is easier on the eyes. Much better for doing graphics. Let's make that resolution per dollar spent.

I have an NEC Diamondtron and am happy. Wouldn't trade it in on an LCD. Fuck the desk space.

pussyluver 10-20-2004 12:48 AM

CRT is better for looking a numbers and text too. Take a close look at a cheap LCD and you'll see what I mean.

I think refresh on a CRT is alot more noticealble and eye straining then a flat panel...

I can go 20 hours no problem with my 20" dell flat panel... my sony 19" crt would make me look like I was stoned

wdsguy 10-20-2004 01:33 AM

its easier to move around than a bulky monitor especially when u have to move.

Also just looks cooler on your desk :thumbsup

BlueQuartz 10-20-2004 01:43 AM

the colours on my flat screen seem to be more vibrant

Idea! Turn up the refresh rate on the CRT to 75Hz.

KRL 10-20-2004 01:55 AM

LCD flat screens blow away CRT's. Everything is much more vibrant and 3d looking. Better color saturation. Sharper text.

I can't even look at CRT's now. I've tossed mine all in the junk pile.

The new Sony's with XBrite technology do a drop dead gorgeous image.

Personally I'm a huge fan of Envision Monitors. They are priced well and just look really great in side by side comparisons.

Also, Samsung and NEC are top of the line.

I'm a fan of flat screen LCD. My eyes never hurt, there is no flicker and they save a hell of a lot of space. Besides that, everything is much sharper.

I don't agree if you get a higher end CRT. IT also doesn't count if the CRT has a few years on it, they blur....

I've worked with both.

Exceptions as always. If you spend enough money on that LCD...

TurboTrucker 10-20-2004 02:02 AM

60hz will give you a headache in no time.

CRT has a better picture, especially for gaming. Flat panel monitor is better for space saving.

Agree Turbo!

The LCDs are catching up

Took a look at Sony's XBright after KRL posted. I find that he typically knows what he is talking about....

The Sony LCd had:
Maximum non-interlaced resolution: 1280 x 1024

and the other specs were not bad either.

My NEC CRT still has more display resolution. I currently work at 1280 x 1024 on my aging FP912. That would be max out for the Sony.
