Anyone watch that new show "The Biggest Loser" on NBC tonight?

It proved to be very interesting as I expected. It was on for an hour n' a half and I liked it, although there are a few flaws...

the female fitness trainer is simply training them to win the event, it is not realistic that these people train 5 hours a day to the point of extreme exhaustion in order to lose fat.

the male trainer in my opinion (the blue team) did the best because he approached it logically with long-term goals in mind.

and -- the negative tone they give to those who "only" lost 5 lbs in 1 week is bad - because actually, if you want to keep healthy, you should try not to lose anymore than 2-4 lbs per week - otherwise you are losing muscle tissue.

so people who watch this are getting a few wrong ideas - although it is MUCH better than those bullshit surgery shows out there.

for those of you who want to lose fat, it's definitely a show to watch - because it is all about diet and training.

Watching those extreme makeover shows make me shudder.

This show is much better because it gives the subjects' psyches' time to catch up to their morphology.

Yeah the surgery stuff pisses me off. If you dont have a health issue that either makes you gain weight or keeps you from excercising then get your fat ass out there and run. This goes for me too.

I was thinking that next season the cast should be comprised of Adult Webmasters. We need SleazyDream on there, AaronM on there, me on there, and a lot of others from this board.

Get us excercising and away from the keyboards. We'd drop weight like crazy.

I like extreme makeover HOME edition. thats the best damn show on tv. the problem with THIS show is that they're pulling that "vote off the island" shit. It stops being cool at that point for me. There was a show on like TLC or discovery starting a few years ago that this show is ripping off that was much better. not teams, everyone was on their own, but it was much more positive.

Yea..I liked it and I don't watch much T.V.

yeah me to, that show kicks ass.

the surgery show is fucking stupid, how can you be so proud of yourself with a fake apperance? you dont deserve to be skinny if you have to get liphosuction to do it. i will have to check this show out.

it should be up on this site pretty soon:

people are fucking crazy who undergo surgery.. the liposuction shit isn't so bad (even though most will end up gaining more fat back anyways)...

but fucking mutiliating your stomach into the size of a golfball is INSANE.

shit, if you're willing to go to those extremes why not just do some exercising and eat right? now i know there are some people who *might* actually need it, and those who say "i've tried every diet", but the reality is is that hardly any of these fucking people NEED it. and those who've "Tried", just either didn't commit, or followed some stupid ass fad diet.

i don't care what doctors say, it's not healthy to chop 90% of your stomach off - and your taking a giant risk in the process.

and using it as an excuse to not exercise is moronic. sure, you might lose a ton of weight and look skinny, but being skinny does not mean being healthy. our bodies are meant to be used and exhausted, if you don't use it, you lose it ;)

/end rant.

The name of the show made me laugh.
Also the varying wieghts of the contestants is not allowing for an equal chance, some of them on there are not that obese.

It's an interesting concept, but promoting the myth of the instant cure, same as eating disorders and fad diets. I realize that these people are working out VERY hard, but the level to which they're being forced to train is unrealistic in the real world. Some of the people had lost 20-25lbs in one week for goodness sake! Talk about unhealthy. I can't imagine that they were able to hire any kind of ethical doctor to be their health advisor for the show.

Nope I was too busy watching the red sox win...

maja 10-19-2004 11:45 PM

FUCK., I knew i missed something tonight!!! I was watching a dvd of Good Times...

Were there a lot of temptations thrown at them (like food, candy, etc)? Cuz that was the impression I got from the commercials to make it harder for them...
