Ok so far all the research I have done has been on over saturation. It's killing conversions. I think the big guys and tgps should cut down and just loose out for a while. If we limit the free stuff (although it will cause problems in the beginning') people will be forced to pay and have to search harder for porn. The harder they search the more money we all make , and obviously we all cash in if people have no choice but to pay. Im sure people will get pissed at this point. I agree with you oversaturation but....this is a business and marketing is very crutial.
Gallery design...my first desings made shit i was frustrated...months later I make very good money through learning what works and what doesnt...
Alot of webmasters on this board are making profit...or else nobody would be doing it ..correct?

Isn't this the whole theory the TGP2er's are struggling to keep alive? I'm sorry man, I think it's a great idea in theory... but as Einstein found out several times over, theory doesn't always hold true in reality. This IS a business, as someone said, and as a business, people are going to do what needs to be done to make a living.
I used to drive 70' super rigs all over the country for the better part of a decade, and the exact same aguement has been made repeatedly with no success whatsoever.

The arguement: The infamous nationwide truckers strike. Sure it works in theory: All the truckers shut down at the same time, and within a week, the entire country is starving, hence, truckers get whatever they want. And it would work... IF you could put two truckers together in the same room for more than 2 1/2 minutes without them killing each other. The problem with this is that no matter how many truckers shut down on any given supposed nationwide strike, there are always going to be the ones that say, "Hehe... dumbasses... go ahead and sit there! I'm runnin' down the road making a killing while you're sitting there fuckin' around!"

And the same principle goes for this TGP2 idea. I DO like the idea... I think it's great. BUT.... it will never happen as long as somebody else is going to be running down the proverbial road with fuckloads of free hardcore just waiting for the masses, and all the while you're left sitting there with your thumb up your ass waiting for some newbie surfer to come to your TGP2 site with no content. And there's no way in hell you're ever gonna get all the porn webmasters to agree to go along with this because again... it's business man.

IF tgp2 can show a noticeable increase in both profits and revenue for the amount of effort involved it will thrive. If not it will fall by the wayside.

If tgp revenues all the sudden got better, no one would need tgp2...

Well my mouth is closed. I guess that's why your the pros and im not. I know it would be impossible to change the way things are run. I just wanted to offer my two cents. I dont know , I figured it was worth a shot. But maybe places like the the hun could ease up a little , loose some money in the beginning and then advertise more pay sites once again and reap even more profits. I dont know I have a million theories , Just wanted to get one of my damn chest.

For an easy answer as to WHY tgp2 WILL work... follow the simple logic below.

Do you REALLY build the pics for the surfers... or are you doing it for the $$$?

If you're doing it for the $$$, then you'll find that just like with regular TGP's (and colleges ;-) ... you want to give the MINIMUM required.

Now equate effort with bandwidth & you'll find that just like in school we all want to find out how we can get the best grade (aka $$$) for the least amount of effort (aka bandwidth)...

TGP2 is an advantage to everybody.

I doubt that the market will ever be saturated because of the following factors:

a) market churn: people look for new content, new niches, people get tired of old or trite content and move on to differing sites.

b) market prequalification factor: while I'm sure a lot of people that feel they got burned by crappy content would never sign up for a paysite again, there are still a lot that found the experience interesting enough to sign up for others. These are "prequalified" consumers and their numbers should cumulative thereby ensuring that there's a large consumer pool out there.

c) the Internet is still expanding its reach to differing demographics. self-explanatory.

d) old ways of marketing are giving way to marketing science. Marketing is a discipline. It doesn't involve just pasting banners or lame text and expecting to get conversions. As more ex-dotcommers with marketing skills cross over to adult content and adult site veterans hone their marketing skills, you will see a major change in marketing techniques. The affiliate model is both good and bad because it depends on the marketing skills of the LL/TGP/AVS/PP submitter. What this means is that there will be more people signing up--but through less and less webmasters as the adult surfer becomes more sophisticated and gravitates towards tried and true marketing approaches [using traditional marketing disciplines --text strategies, interruption model, etc. ]

Insightful post, Xanobyte. The greater implication of your observations is that the interests of TGP owners and TGP submitters really are diametrically opposed. This has great implications to the success of any model that seeks to replace TGP1.

The TGP owner wants people to come back to the list page. The submitter wants users to click their sponsor links. Here's the problem--the TGP owner would want more hardcore and explicit galleries and shitloads [at least 16 images] of content in their listings. This way the user gets their content and develops loyalty to the site. The TGP submitter wants less content and more suggestive pics to TEASE the user into clicking. He/she could care less about the user becoming loyal to the page--hell, its just a gallery submission with tonz more to follow it. The submitter's number one priority is for the user to click sponsor links. Indeed, the more the user clicks thumbs to pics instead of sponsor links, the submitter does not gain anything outside of higher bandwidth costs.

While some may argue that TGP list owners actually hurt themselves if they list too many hardcore links since this diminishes the appeal of the paysites that they are pushing, this argument neglects the power of user loyalty. If the TGP list owner generates enough user loyalty by doling out copious amounts of hardcore links, they are getting a return on their investment in higher page loads/bookmarks resulting in higher probabilities of users clicking the list owner's sponsor links. In essence, the list owner has the luxury of waiting for a loyal user to "mature" into a sponsor clicker [on the list owner's site] whereas the submitter does not have that luxury--either the user clicks NOW while the user is viewing the gallery or its gone.

Now comes TGP2 trying to "solve" the problem above. Given the huge number of TGP1 sites out there, the competition between both models will probably boil down to who can retain the user. Let me see... a link list that gives me all the explicit core I want or hmmmm, 5 active links to tease pics and some nonlinked thumbs.

TGP2's a good theory, and do we need new ideas to make this industry produce more cash, but there's definitely problems with market reality and consumer psychology.

I listened to Sounding Point last night while in the office. They had my bro Colin on, along with Ludedude, talking about this TGP2. I think it is a great idea - BUT - I can't see it working out. Main concern is traffic. Nobody is going to make galleries to get 25 hits/day. People bitch on boards when a "big" TGP "only" sends 500 hits/day to a gallery link. So right there, TGP2 link sites have to come up with hits to trade/send out. Where can they get the traffic? By trading with regular, TGP sites? Well, wouldn't that corrupt the surfers, send them off to the "real" TGP - giving that site yet more traffic, and bookmarkers, grateful for coming across a link list of complete gallery pages. Many of which contain hardcore images?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for TGP2. If submitters make more sales, and burn less gigs, that's awesome. It will cut way down on gallery cheating, and force surfers to PAY FOR THE GOOD STUFF. I'm all for everyone making more profit. I just don't see the bigger sites changing over.

I remember when COPA was coming to put us all out of business. US webmasters were getting prepared to put everything behind "free" AVS doors, and non-US webmasters were getting ready to cash in by supplying copious amounts of free hardcore. I see TGP2 running into the same problem.

And speaking of truckers, I worked for a trucking company in NJ a few years back. I'm still a member of Teamster's Local 560. No long haul, I just drove in NY, NJ, and CT
