The Ideal Salary, according to Oprah and Harvard
$40,000 per year is the ideal salary according to Oprah and Harvard.
http://www.bankrate.com/nsc/news/car...rodtype=advice Multiply that by 10 and I still couldn't pay all my bills. :( |
some are happy with thousands while others are not happy with millions.. :2 cents:

what they were referring to was basically a survey/study about salaries besides, i think it was about 2 nights ago that i watched oprah stand in front of a huge convention hall and announce spur of the moment that she was giving this foundation $5,000,000...totally out of the blue...oprah has NO trouble parting with her money |
i still think it's insulting having her talk about money like that...

It's how the sheep are herded.
Fucken propaganda. Who the hell can live on 40k a year in America? |
The article wouldn't load for me, but was that a single person on $40k/year? Cause if so, that's plenty of money to live on in an apartment with a decent car. It is the ideal salary in this age, most of my friends (age 23 or 24) make $25-30k.

my wife and I added it up last week, we could actually live in the house we do now, using the same utilities and going out and partying at the same rate....and do it all on $32k a year needless to say we save a lot, and we don't blow money on needless shit |

sometimes I think that us porn people don't realize how lucky we have it to be able to click our mouse (with skill) and make a couple hundred dollars |

40k allows you to live comfortably - forget that
|
Here in the midwest 40k is quite a bit and more than average. Right now my wife and I if we made exactly what we have made the last month or so would make 40k/year, but I am just restarting my online biz and hopefully that number will go up quite a bit quickly. I am perfectly happy with the way I am living my live at this point in time. Granted you aint gonna be driving around sports cars, or in our case even a new car period, and thats just because of my personal preferance to not have a carpayment, but I guess I am just not a materialistic person and dont need all that stuff to be happy.
I have my wife, daughter, and in around 5-6 weeks I will have a son, the 2 dogs, we own our home with an insanely small mortgage payment (350/month because I was able to put a large chunk down 4 years ago), yes we drive 2 old cars that look like shit, but they run great and are comfortable. Even though we aint gonna set the world on fire with outrageous possessions and trips to exotic places we have all we need and then some. My simple life is a good life :) |
I guess living around a major city in the east coast has totally fucked my perspective. 40k is basically poverty around here.

that is why smart people don't live in expensive cities, it just drains your wallet :) |
Two Words....
FUCK THAT Here is a URL that allows you to make more than $40k a year - lol http://www.HowIgotRich.com |

You can live on that if you closely watch every penny you spend, don't ever eat out, shop at the Salvation Army, live in a small place, drive a cheap car...

Earning $40k in a place like Wyoming or Nebraska would be a lot different than earning $40k in Manhattan, NY or Aspen, CO |

For someone in our biz it doesn't make much sense to live in NY or LA....but for alot of people the higher cost of living is worth the career opportunities that exist there. Kind of hard to be a stock broker or a lobbyist in Boise, Idaho. |
I have many friends who graduated college with a 4yr degree and make only30k, some can't even find jobs in their fields and have to get jobs outside their field that pay like $14-$15 an hour... 40k for one person in Ca is not "a lot" but it is manageable if you manage your money well and cook and don't eat out a lot and live with roommates instead of getting your own place. But I know in other places such as New Mexico it's a lot since rent there is extremely low.
One of my friends who makes 70k a year didn't even want to buy a house here in OC because it's too expensive, average price is almost 500k here now for a regular house, so he went and bought a house in Vegas... I think it's much cheaper in other states... |
