You're in luck, I even order from them... They're located in Toronto. www.blankmedia.ca If you know anything about CDR media, buy Taiyo Yuden. :glugglug |

Factor in the conversion ratio, reliablity. Taxes, brokerage fees if you don't forward. If forward, taxes, shipping price. Standard flate rate brokerage fee. I haven't looked but is the one from price watch also taiyo yuden? theres a big difference. |
Your comparing bottom of the line garbage to Taiyo Yuden? :1orglaugh

Only burn useless data or stuff you don't want to last long. Then they're are okay. |

Japan -R spindles are yellow and have letters and numbers on the inner circle, but they are almost invisible because they are engraved The numbers, though small, are visible just where the yellow surface layer stops. If you see just the shiny silver band with no numbers then it's not TY. Those are for the retail dvdrs that commercial stores sell and rebadge as their cd lable ie (Maxell, Memorex, Fuji Film ect... Or you can buy directly from cdr media stores and buy the silver taiyo yuden's.... |
For a visual effect, heres a pic... If it does not work... Copy and paste to a browser ;)
http://132.216.13.9/media/tymaxell.jpg This is for DVDr Taiyo Yuden btw. |
Where are you gonna use them for? As mentioned Taiyo is great, and almost no bad ones.
But when you use it for some backup stuff, and replave every cdr every week anyway I would go for the cheaper ones |
Who makes the disc: Brand vs. Media ID
The thing that must be realized is that most media is produced by a relative small number of factories, located in several different places. These factories are present in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Mexico, Hong Kong, India, and Ireland... maybe a few more, but not many. The best media generally comes from Japan and Singapore. The worst typically comes from Taiwan (in stores) and Hong Kong (online). This being said, understand that the media brands means nothing. Apple is a great brand, but they do not make their own discs, instead outsourcing to MXL (Hitachi/Maxell), MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals), and PVC (Pioneer). Verbatim became infamous by switching from high-quality MCC to ultra-cheap CMC (CMC Magnetics) media, although they have since returned to using MCC. Companies like Memorex, Fuji and Imation all outsource to media vendors. Always be aware of fake media too. Fake media is normally sold in flea markets, on eBay and online. This fake media normally has no brand markings and the company being faked normally only sells branded discs. |

I agree. If you plan on using it as a temp back up, use chepo (but make sure, after you burn it... check all content if it's good working order) If you plan on backing up data and want it to last a long time. Go for Taiyo Yudens. |
