China Sentences Four for Porn Websites
 

BEIJING ? Continuing its assault on adult entertainment, China sentenced four men to up to two-and-a-half years in jail for running a pornographic website, China?s official English-language newspaper reported Friday.
Liang Hongbin, Li Yufe, Yu Jianhong and Chen Dong were arrested in August during the government?s crackdown on Internet pornography.

Claiming that the county?s youth were being corrupted by easy access to online porn, China began to seriously denounce pornography in June, claiming that it ?severely damaged social style, polluted the social environment, and harmed the physical and psychological health of the young people.?

Government officials then began to offer a bounty of $240 for anyone tips relating to the capture of anyone involved in operating a porn website based within the country.

Since the crackdown began, 445 people have been arrested and approximately 1,125 websites have been shut down the government.

Officials have also threatened to give a life sentence to the owner of any China-based adult website that has more than 250,000 visitors.

Last month, a 22-year-old Chinese computer student convicted of running a porn site was sentenced to five years in prison by a Chinese court.

A Chinese woman was also sentenced to four years in jail for running an online strip joint.

Does anyone know if the laws apply in HK? I know they're part of China but they use different laws then mainland china, correct?

A free and civilized society should be judged by its willingness to accept pornography.

the more they supress it, the more people will clamor for it. they're just giving porn a great pr job over there

last time I checked China was not any where close 2 being a free society, the panel is still out on the civilized part.

hk law is different, follows uk law for now.

china is fucked up as if you go there, prosititution is so open and everyone its unreal.

i guess they cant get undertable money from porn like they can drugs, prostitution.

Huh? UK gave control of HK back to China in 1997.

I keep hearing things are different in HK but I never see any proof. Fuck it, I will have to go check it out myself.

HK is different - its still a "Special Administive Zone" or some such shit and still follows some legal customs from the U.K days.

The Chinese have clamped down a little bit but are afraid to fuck with the people too much, or kill off the greatest cash cow they have.

I lived there briefly and have some friends that still do - many of the Chinese businessmen started to flee in 1997, but came back because China has been not too heavy-handed, at least yet.

HK is definitely different than China. The question is will China allow it to remain different? I hope so. I like HK.

Theres quite a few people I have dealt wth over the past 2 years which are working their nuts of to get the hell out of HK.

Most of these guys used them for processing cards as it was pretty easy to get an account out there though now they do not feel as 'safe'
