Fed Ex, UPS, or USPS for your business' shipping needs??

I need to pick a carrier, to pick up packages and ship them out, almost daily, mostly under 4 pounds a package.

Which would you choose for your business? and why?

Jace 10-17-2004 10:28 PM

USPS or fedex

fuck UPS, they suck SO bad

[Brian] 10-17-2004 10:29 PM

domestic, international, or both?

Burridge 10-17-2004 10:29 PM

any particular reason?

The Bootyologist 10-17-2004 10:29 PM

Burridge 10-17-2004 10:30 PM

yup same here. fed ex for big packages and usps for small.

the guys at ups are assholes, they always want to open up your package and make sure its packed right.

chupacabra 10-17-2004 10:31 PM

fuck all of the above, DHL is the only carrier i trust w/ my unmentionables..

DHL for international if you primarily ship to the most 'common' countries

UPS for domestic + Canada

USPS = slow & no tracking, use only if you are looking for cheapest option (must be used for P.O. boxes anyway though)

DHL?

unmentionables?

FedEx is the most reliable. UPS is good for large packages.

Forget the US Postal Service. They are the most unreliable.

Phil21 10-17-2004 10:39 PM

If your process is automated (i.e. you just have some monkeys slap shipping labels on boxes and they sit by the dock waiting for $whomever to pick it up) go USPS. You can get some good deals, and they tend to be the most consistantly reliable shipper I've ever used (and we ship quite a bunch of crap around the country). However, they are not good at "custom" in terms of varying pickup times, some days you have stuff, some days not, etc. You can also get "pretty good" tracking w/ USPS.

Otherwise use Fedex, which is more expensive and has other problems but we use them a lot. They deal MUCH better which "custom" stuff, custom pickups, last minute shipments, etc. Their tracking is the best by far of all the companies, but their drivers can be lazy assholes. Luck of the draw on the latter though.

UPS I stopped even considering after their drivers did "drive by's" here a couple times. Meaning they SAY they attempted to deliver a package, but never happened to you know.. show up at the door, or leave a note, or anything. After 3 or 4 times of that happening we simply said fuck 'em.

Same here, can't even count the number of packages I've had delivered to me that they didn't get a signature for.

reynold 10-17-2004 11:10 PM

i'm satisfied with the services of fedex . .

xclusive 10-17-2004 11:11 PM

for that amount I would go with USPS and for anything heavier go with fed ex...

vapewiz 10-17-2004 11:13 PM

DHL rocks! :thumbsup :thumbsup

LiveDose 10-17-2004 11:13 PM

I never use the USPS for anything important anymore. Many many fuckups over the years. Especially with Express Mail.

Fedex is great for shipping drugs

dubious media 10-18-2004 02:25 AM

this is why you should use fedex

pradaboy 10-18-2004 03:28 AM

I always use FedEx... they're excellent! USPS doesn't provide tracking.

quiet 10-18-2004 03:35 AM

i've used them all extensively.

fedex is the only way to go - fuck the rest.

HairToStay 10-18-2004 04:36 AM

What are you shipping? If it's adult videos/DVDs type material, avoid USPS -- it's Federal.

UPS won't open it unless it's going through Customs, then will reject it if it's anything dealing with adult. Each package is automatically insured up to $100 and for a buck, you can have a signature required which helps in chargeback issues.

FedEx is good but more expensive.

sirrobin 10-18-2004 07:05 AM

I suggest you use DHL

DHL bought airborne express so the service is no excellent for the same rock bottom prices

Rochard 10-18-2004 07:47 AM

Fed Ex bought UPS last week.

The name of the new company is Fed Up.

Basic_man 10-18-2004 07:49 AM

I use DHL (dhl.com) for my mainstream business! :thumbsup
It's very cheap from 9,99$ and very fast !

USPS is good enough for most small shipments. For luxury items, I'd go with Fed Ex.

steve90 10-19-2004 07:55 AM

I use fedex most of the time fast and good priceing

Steve G 10-19-2004 08:50 AM

for Ground packages the best is FEDEX GROUND
For OVERNIGHT we like USPS EXPRESS

For packages to canada FEDEX GROUND again is the best. Takes around 4-5 days. Sometimes even faster then Express delivery.

Never use DHL for domestic. They are misplace lots of packages. When we used them for our Ground services we had to reship around 10% of all orders because they were delivered to wrong addresses. Then also when they try to make delivery and the customer is not there, all other companies leave a note. DHL in 50% of the cases never did.

I prefer FedEx for international shippings. They're the best when stuff is stuck at the customs.

Nasty D 10-19-2004 09:50 AM

hard to beat the cost for international @ the us post office, and they have prepaid postage and free pick up six days a week for domestics:thumbsup

Bugbee 10-19-2004 09:59 AM

OK Fed ex is great if you know it blah blah blah has to be there overnight. If it is anything that is heavy I like to use UPS ground. USPS is a bunch of bullshit. Now DHL is going off I think they are actually doing a telemarketing campaign offering 1 free package under a certain weight shipped anywhere in the US for free to try them out kepp an eye on them I know already they are cheaper than Fed ex or UPS.

Good Luck

sickkittens 10-19-2004 10:00 AM

For light packages, go with USPS.com. They are usually the cheapest.
