Car Gurus? What can I do to a Domestic Truck?

Dodge Dakota V8 4.7L Mag.

Looking for Engine mods...

NickPapageorgio 10-17-2004 07:08 PM

Start off with exhaust and an intake. That's gonna give you the best boost for your buck right off the bat.

evildick 10-17-2004 07:09 PM

Depends on how much you want to spend. Most people start out with a catback dual exhaust, cold air intake and a chip.

I'm sure there are probably supercharger kits for that engine by now as well.

lagwagon 10-17-2004 07:10 PM

throw in some gears and a supercharger. also exhaust for a stronger sound. it will be fast as hell with just these three things.

My son's 01 Dakota has a mod chip (also called a jet chip, performance chip, 20+hp chip) and a flowmaster.

Next is airbags and this body kit http://www.cervinis.com/NewFiles/DakotaSniperKit.html

then the interior and sound system.

There's a bunch of them. Hypertech Power programmer is a popular one.

There's a new one made by a company called Westers that is custom designed for your truck when you order it. Apparently they offer better results than some of the other programmers.

There are different chips. Basically they hold a program which tells your cars computer what to do in certain situations and it mostly deals with the air/fuel mix if I understand things correctly. They have to be tuned to your specs I believe also but I may be wrong. You can probably find something on ebay in any case...

Their website is a piece of shit, but they get a lot of positive word of mouth on most of the performance forums I've visited.
