Anyone buy one of the cheap plasmas?
Right now you can get a 42 inch plasma for $2,999 Canadian, no tax.
http://www.mdg.ca/2x_tv.asp?bus=4&country=ca&lang=en From what I understand all these cheap ones that you see at places like Costco and Futureshop for about 3K are basically rebadged Samsungs. Some of the other names they are marketed under are Prima, Akia, Advent. Are these things junk or decent as a spare TV? |
They are ok - but they do not support HDTV. That's why they are so cheap.
|
gateway has em all the time at 2700
|
Ya, I see most of them only do 480P.
They actually had a HD Sony on sale at Futureshop last week for $3499, but I missed the sale. Now it's back up to $4500. |
Prima, Akia, Advent
These are JUNK. Watch a movie that is VERY dark and you will see what I mean. |

I'm thinking of buying one on Xmas....

Those cheap plasmas have a 852 x 480 resolution and when you look at them side by side with one with 1024 x 768 or better you can really see the difference. The pixels on the cheap ones look gigantic.
|
You can get Sony for less than $4k
|
They will all be under $2000 next year at this time.
