Some women really have stupid fuckin ideas

They will hurt women businesses as well and because shes a loser doesnt mean all women are, I know many women that are extremly successful either working for themselves or for someone else. Def a wrong way to get media attention, call it "attention whore"

Joan Sclar gives new credence to the term ?shop ?til you drop.? But this Tuesday, she's giving the credit cards a break in order to help prove a point - that in more ways than one, women are a critical part of the economy.

?Anything for the strength for women, and I think we are the ones that set the tones for our spouses or significant others, we influence what they buy so I'd definitely be willing to support that,? she said.

Sclar is joining other women in support of "Buycott," a day in which creator Janet Hanson hopes women nationwide won't buy anything. Hansen belongs to 85 Broads, a network of female professionals who work for Wall Street banking giant Goldman Sachs.

?We're hoping that on October 19 women will chose that day not to buy any essential goods so they can reflect on their enormous purchasing power, which so far has not translated into economic power in the workplace,? Hansen said.

Organizers say 'the act of not shopping is a symbolic gesture that we no longer buy the glacial pace of economic change for women.'

This is the first Buycott and awareness is being promoted in cities like New York, San Francisco, London, Boston and Chicago.

Statistics show more than 80 percent of all purchases are either made or influenced by women. But less than 15 percent of top executives in Fortune 500 companies are female.

Kristie Kang grew frustrated with the corporate world and left. Now Kang runs her own business, Lotus Spa in New York City.

She thinks Buycott is a great idea.

?That is a powerful way of just demonstrating to the world that you know what, we are neglected but we are powerful consumers,? Kang said.

Buycott?s critics worry that some of the businesses that could be hurt by the demonstration are owned by women. It could hurt women?s businesses. So come Tuesday Deepa Goela will not ?Buycott.?

?I don't think that's going to make a difference for women and their position in the world, just by shopping (laughs),? she said.

Hanson said Buycott is not about being economically hostile. It's about companies finding ways of thanking women who buy, by promoting more women who work for them.

On Tuesday, 85 Broads will contribute $12,000 to Room To Read to build a new school in Vietnam.

What does buying power have to do with running Fortune 500 companies? Somebody please explain that to me.

robfantasy 10-17-2004 05:32 PM

all i can say is that bitch is crazy

jade_dragon 10-17-2004 05:55 PM

Haha, if women stop buying then it means men have more money to buy what they want to buy. You can boycott a company but you can not boycott buying in general, this is just great. :1orglaugh
