How can you improve throwing arm strength?

Eh? Im signed up for dodgeball (and yes, its still fucking fun even in university) and i need to be able to whale the ball at people and take off some heads

Suggestions as to how to improve your throwing arm?

for that you will need to develop your triceps more than anything.

Tricep Extension - While the biceps bend the elbow, the triceps extend the arm from the elbow joint. They are being called to act in the chest press and shoulder press movements, but if you want to work that "back of the arm" area, incorporate a movement that begins with the elbow bent, and then pushes, against resistance, to extend (straighten) the arm. This can be done with a dumbbell in each hand lying on the floor, with a single dumbbell or a barbell overhead, with one arm at a time in a rear tricep extension, or pushing downward on a high pulley cable

Which hand do you spank it with? Same as throwing arm?

You could add some weights to that arm when you are taking care of business.

Throw a weighted ball over and over

xclusive 10-18-2004 02:21 AM

you need to throw something heavy like maybe a medicine ball that is 3 times the weight of the dodge ball and you will rule...

Alky 10-18-2004 02:26 AM

dont throw anything heavy, your just going to hurt your arm, throwing fast is more about mechanics and practicing throwing than anything.

Alky 10-18-2004 02:27 AM

throwing has a lot more to do with your whole body.. not your arm.

Hmmm

http://store.yahoo.com/homegym/supergripper.html

The Super Gripper has been designed to give you the widest possible range of resistance settings from 8 pounds to 125 pounds by adjusting the two spring coils included accordingly.

Seems weak compared to the Iron Mind grippers...

Myst 10-18-2004 02:58 PM

do grippers actually make you throw faster?

Babagirls 10-18-2004 03:01 PM

push ups :thumbsup

Quentin 10-18-2004 03:26 PM

Throwing a projectile at high speeds has very little to do with arm strength and a great deal to do with technique and form. Look at Randy Johnson - that guy is built like a stick figure, and he throws plenty fast (and in the specific physics of propelling things, his being tall doesn't hurt, either). In fact, if you overbuild your muscles, you will sacrifice flexibility and with it arm speed, which is absolutely key.

I'd say practice, practice, practice. If you know of another player who can really hurl it, observe their form, and maybe ask them for some pointers.

Swimming.. Best thing to strengthen every muscle group..

Trust me, if you swim laps you will notice your throwing strengt increases.. I know baseball players who do it..
