1859 Abolitionist John Brown led a group of about 20 men in a raid on Harper's Ferry. 1916 Margaret Sanger opened the first birth-control clinic, in New York City. 1946 Ten Nazi war criminals condemned during the Nuremberg trials were hanged. 1962 The Cuban missile crisis began as President John F.
